Default WIND Mobile Promotion

I went to WIND's website to add their US roaming feature on and came across this limited promotion where the US roaming is included in their $39 plan!

I called to make sure I'm not missing some other feature I had from my current plan and was told I am not so I switched plans.
Some of you may have an older plan that included calls to the US while still in Canada. You may lose this by switching.

* After 5 GB of usage in month, they reserve the right to throttle your usage. Not sure if this actually happens, but it's there in the fine print in case they have to.
* Possibly slower speeds than other networks?
* Coverage only in major cities in Canada, and probably some would say the coverage isn't the best.

The above aren't concerns for me, so I'm happy to have a plan where data usage is not a concern.

Yeah, after 5 GB they throttle to 256kb/s, unless you pay an additional $10 - then they don't throttle until 10 GB.

I love Wind so far. I'm on their $30 plan that includes unlimited talk/text/data, and since I brought my own phone in I get $9 a month towards extras which I use to get voicemail free.

My lady friend meanwhile is paying something ridiculous like $80-90 a month with Rogers.

I drive around the city for my job, and there's just a few communities that I lose reception in, but I'm only every there for 15 minutes at a time so worst case I leave the zone and find out I have a voicemail message. Aspen Woods in the SW, and the far N (Balzac area) and far S (Legacy area).

I'm thinking about switching to WIND from Rogers when my contract ends in October.

I travel to Sask often but I never got reception there with Rogers anyway, so I'm not losing anything.

I always look at roaming when outside of the city charges in a monthly/yearly perspective.
I'm paying $40 with wind over $60-80 with someone else. I might roam a bit some months, but rarely $20-40 in roaming so each month although going over on my bill I am still saving money.
Even if one month I do spend a bit more than $80 with roaming in there over a whole year period I should still have saved money throughout most months making WIND the no brainer for me.

The only other issue if you are an existing wind customer is tat the plan has a max tab value of 150 so if your tab is higher than that you would have to pay out the difference before getting the new plan. As an alternative you can just add the us roaming option before you leave and cancel when you get back fo $15 per month. Unsure if when you cancel if it just charges you for the days it was active or the full month.

unlimited US data roaming?? that's a huge plus! I travel to the US every now and then, and using Bell is BRUTAL for roaming charges. I hate not being able to access my data when I travel...may have to look into switching.

Now if only they had unlimited Canada roaming...

Anyone know of Wind's reception in Chestermere?

EDIT: According to their map some of Chestermere is covered, but not most of it. Says it's Variable Network and Coverage (whatever that means).

We live in Copperfield and tried my son's phone driving east on 22X. We gave up about 10 km east of Stoney trying to see when he'd lose the signal. However I'm not sure if I would bank on that coverage as my primary phone.

I did look at switching over to Wind, however I find that I travel outside of Calgary within Canada a lot more than I travel to the US. I also have a great grandfathered plan with Bell, so the cost savings would only be $10 per month. For that kind of money I like that my son can stream Netflix on my phone or iPad as we travel on the highway. For the times I travel into the US Bell has now dropped the 100 MB plan to $20; which is a lot better than what it used to be.

I've been with wind since 2011, for the first year I streamed Netflix everyday and generally surfed away happy as could be.
About a year and a half later all of a sudden I was exceeding the fair usage and was getting my data throttled. 2 days into the new billing period. Happened for 4 months in a row. Phone became just that.
I ended up changing my habits (using home internet instead of mobile for movies etc) but was frustrating as hell at the time
