Icon48 GMs decide to keep status quo for draft lottery

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Sabres GM Tim Murray says GMs have agreed to change draft lottery but not as early next year. So he's obviously pleased with that.

update:
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
League says no decision yet on draft lottery, not clear yet when it will change past next year

update 2:

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
At this point there is not enough agreement among GMs to change draft lottery at all, never mind timing of it. Remains up in the air

update 3:

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Recap: no agreement to change draft lottery. Status quo for now but conversation continues. Tim Murray confident it means no change for 2015

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
However, a league source said nothing is guaranteed at this point on timing of draft lottery change, if it even changes at all

Will be a good test to see if the Oilers are tanking on purpose or just terribly managed, coached and run.

I think we already know the answer.

Unless we end up in that no-mans land again next year. I know everyone expects us to be bottom 5 again, but I don't think that is a given, especially considering all the likely tankers next season.

Still, I am all for sacrificing a good lottery chance in any given season in order to finally get a more fair lottery system in place.

I think they seriously should implement if you have a top 5 pick 3 times in the last 5 years (no matter the order, could be consecutive or not). If you manage to get in the top 5 again for the fourth time, then you have to pick 14th (the last non-playoff pick)... I know this may have faults, but at least work around something like that. Every idea will have a fault.

So basically they have admitted the current format is flawed, but they aren't sure how to improve it yet.

Hopefully expanded lottory draws (make picks 1-5 determined by lotto for example). Something to further reduce incentives to be bad. Makes sense that it wouldn't be an immediate change... no team set to benefit from the current system would agree to a change without raising hell so just set it to take place some specific time in the future (2017 would be my guess). That way everyone whose bad now will be fine with it (because they presume they won't be then) and the teams that will be bad then don't know it so have no objection to agreeing to it nowish.

hmm just changing the percentages?

Arash Madani @ArashMadani
David Poile says a proposal will be made to change percentages in the NHL draft lottery moving forward. No word on frozen envelopes though.

On embellishments, Colin Campbell says rule 64.2 will be re-written. Repeat offenders to be fined, and those would escalate. No suspensions.

I would like there to be some sort of tournament where the winner gets the top pick, 2nd gets pick two. Not sure how that would work but its better than teams facking around and trying to lose.

I'd like to see the percentages be equal for all non-playoff teams.

YES!!!!
YEEEESS!!!!

I would have liked to see suspensions, but to give fines will at least mean their offenses will be open to public shame.
