Default So... laptop admin password is lost...

new business and I bought a laptop amongst other computers. My computer tech guy set it up. We've since moved on to a new computer tech provider. Left on good terms - wanted someone with more experience in our industry - and got all of our passwords prior to ending the relationship.

All the passwords except the admin password on our laptop. In addition, this seems to be the only machine in the office that my profile is also not an admin profile.

Now I can't even download updates from Acrobat Reader, let alone other important software I need for my business. We have asked the former tech what it would be or where it might be, and he has no idea what it might be aside from the suggestions he gave us.

From what I have been able to determine, there is no password reset disk or flash drive that was created when it was set up.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. ........ what are my options?

How can I save this machine? I don't want to have to buy a new one and have to buy new software for it, but at a loss as what to do.

Help me OB-1, I mean CP, you are my only hope.

Is it on a domain? Is there another user who is local admin on that laptop? Or somebody who is domain admin? If so, have them log on and make you local admin.

If it was on the domain and they hadn't tried the domain admin password by this time, they should fire their IT guy.

ntpassword will do the trick

I guess for me- the number of times I've seen a problem get escalated to me, and the simplest solution hasn't been tried; I often have to ask.

I guess it does make sense to be asking though, since if it is on a domain ntpassword probably won't work.

there are quite a few options, but if your not that tech savvy or dont want to be bothered with it, just call a mobile computer repair guy. I can recommend the guys I use (xpert solutions). they'll have it fixed/hacked professionally within a few minutes. They saved me from the same problem a while ago. you can book them online and they'll come do the work right in your office immediately. its worth the $80 bucks to have stuff done professionally.
this is their website: xps.unmix.ca
i think the tech that always comes to our office is terry but any tech there is probably great.
