2 years if Giordano and Ramo keep up great play. Longer if we have to fill those positions.

25 years. Get your gear ready! Probably another 2 years IMO before we push for the playoffs. Another 2 years with further development and signings to be true contenders.

The Flames will be the next Canadian team to qualify for the playoffs.

2014/2015 - Bottom 3
2015/2016 - Barely miss playoffs
2016/2017 - Make Playoffs (lower seed)
2017-2018 - Contenders

The biggest problem I have with the idea of the length of any re-build is, the low point is obvious: playoffs, consistently.
Every year, many well built teams will need to retool for the next season.
So by rebuild, are we just talking about making playoffs, or more than that.

Could be wrong...but if you mean a championship contender.
2017-18 or 2018-19.
With a lot of good decisions.

3 years until we're fighting for a playoff spot. 4-5 before we're in them solidly.

Probably 3 years till we make playoffs. Hopefully 5 on being a rated top 3-4 contender. That of course depends on who we pick up in the years to come. Gio will be 35 and more than likely declining in play. Also flames will need to have a legit great goalie playing full time by then.

You don't need to be a good team to make the playoffs, you only need to be average

Not sure a rebuild should ever be about just making the playoffs.

I agree 100 percent. Just not sure why people think it will be so long until we make the playoffs. We don't need to be a contender to get there. We weren't that far off this year IMO

They were a long ways off. It was entertaining but they weren't even close. I could see the flames being the same or slightly worse next year.
So using your terminology , in 3 years the flames will be average.

Defensive depth is a concern, especially NHL-ready depth in Addy.
Forward depth is there, and they're bringing in a lot of different kinds of players to fill roles.
Big question mark is if/when elite-level goaltending emerges or is found.
