While I can understand his importance to a team like Florida, if Victor Rask won this award I would have been pretty choked!

Right my a##, bloody joke

For the second year in a row Tavares leads the league in scoring and gets sunbed again

Red Wuings
Code:
Zach Parise (DET) 82 49 54 103 12
James van Riemsdyk (DET) 82 32 39 71 18
T.J. Oshie (DET) 82 30 41 71 14
Mikhail Grabovski (DET) 67 25 42 67 1
Carolina
Code:
John Tavares (CAR) 82 35 70 105 -4
Tyler Seguin (CAR) 82 27 36 63 8
Jay Bouwmeester (CAR) 77 9 43 52 -21
Patrick Sharp (TOT) 81 22 27 49 -6
Looks at this difference, Tavares had 42 more points then the second leafing scorer for the canes. Its a joke, last yea I laughed it off but the is just ridicules because I knew it was coming.

Never in the history of this league didn't we have one player dominate on one team like this and also lead the league and get zero respect. Also the only player in league history to be snubbed like this as well

For my vote, MVP does not necessarily equal most points. That's what the scoring title and all-star teams are for.

I think a lot of the winners are determined by the player that was the top of the scoring/stat chart (cough, defenseman, cough). I get the feeling that a lot of the votes don't dig much deeper than that.

Detroit made the playoffs, Carolina didn't. Honestly, if Carolina had made the playoffs I would have a hard time choosing Parise over Tavares.

I think this is a good time to consider reevaluating how the award voting is conducted. There was zero discussion about any of the non-rookie-GM awards this year - why is that? I enjoy the narrative about why the awards are handed out (the McGratton thread was awesome) much more than just seeing a player win a million in cap and a handful of congrats posts. Why can't that be the norm instead of the exception?

The Actual Award
Lanny McDonald Award - an annual award given to the player judged to be the most valuable to his team as voted by the general managers of all CPHL clubs.

nowhere in this does it say playoffs... we're talking playoffs
Plus lets be honest the Hurricanes landed in 9th spot and 3 pints out of the playoffs because they didn't quit (neither did btimbit btw). So because the team fell 3 points shy that it means Tavares is no longer eligible as league most valuable player. I'll be shocked to hell if any one actually looked up playoffs performance and combined the two to find an overall winner.

Teams that fight and don't tank and try their best to make the post season should be open and have just as much as an equally opportunity to improve their team like the playoffs teams. If this is a playoff team awayd then what other individual award on our list is also just then for playoffs teams only

It doesn't define what "most valuable" means either.

What if most valuable means "the player that put up the most points per million dollars of cap hit"?

ROR wins that one for sure.

And you should be shocked I guess... I actually looked at both Parise and Tavares (who were both so close in stats and miles above all other candidates) very closely.

Tavares had 2 more points, had a point gap that was +10 over Parise, 14 fewer goals, was -16 below Parise and was on a team that finished out of the playoffs.

Perhaps if the PR department had gotton off of mcgrattons jock then the league would have been more aware of your contender and you could have swayed some votes.

I didn't vote for Parise or JT, I went with Lehtonen, imo, the most valuable player to his team.

I'm cool with the 3 Lehtonen votes (or even if he had more) Tavares not winning this award because some GM's think a player is meaningless because he's on a non playoff team is garbage. There's no way Tavares doesn't win this in a landslide if the Hurricanes get one more win and an OT loss during a 82 schedule. Seriously, because of 3 points everything he did has no barrings.

This is the 2nd time. Imagine how hard it is to league the league in points, one player can do it hundreds... then to do it two years in a roll while playing on a crappy team that you don't pick up secondary points.Sorry outside of the 3 Lehtonen voters... you guys missed the shift

What is sad, os not that it did happen but I had to put out a post apologizing for speaking up a wee beforehand because thats how predictable it was

Can you point me to the rule that states that the MVP should go to the player with the most points?

Parise had 14 more goals and a whopping 17 more than JVR (compared to Tavares' 8 more). Parise also had twice the number of game winning goals as Tavares.

I think the MVP has to be more than just who scored the most points. Otherwise, what's the point of voting on the award?

And Tavares isn't the only player to get snubbed when it comes to major awards at the end of the season. Defensive defensemen NEVER get the nod for the "best defenseman" award.

It's really no knock on you or your team... just my interpretation of the MVP award.

Phil kessel would like to thank his one supporter (you know who you are). It takes a lot of bravery to vote against the greatest player alive in John Taveras. Your bravery will not go unnoticed! Phil has mailed out a personalized Aqua CD collectors set in addition to a lock of his neck/back hair mounted beautifully on the American flag.

A little initiative we like to call Philanthropy.

Well I voted for Tuuka Rask, who I also thought was the best goaltender in the league this season. I simply thought he was more valuable to his team than the others.
