Florida - Anaheim Trade, #2 for #12
To Anaheim
My 1st - 2nd overall
To Florida
Jarome Iginla
Nick Leddy
I was wanting a first line player with #2, and I ended up getting that and a quality 22 year old #3 D-man.
This will help me greatly next season and beyond.
Thanks to everyone who made offers.

You KNOW Ravi is foaming at the mouth to get any kind of pick that will have a chance at equaling the RL Flames' draft pick and you settle for a declining asset with one year left on his deal + Leddy?
I think you left decent value on the table. Other GMs might not have been able to drive the price up before the draft but I think you could have squeezed the Ducks for more. Or you could have waited until the prospect developed a bit and gotten more for an established prospect.

I tried that, but the adders I would've had to include to make Iginla Carter was too much. Also Iggy did have 61 points and he should be good for a few years still.
Ekblad (I'm assuming that will be #2) once developed will likely be a #2 D-man. Leddy is already a quality #3, so I don't have to wait for the development of Ekblad either.
Plus, I do want to make the playoffs next year, so giving a bit on potential is fine to get me closer tomorrow

Strangely run trade process for #2. Was this by invite only???
I sent a couple PMs with ideas as well as specific offers and received no reply...your deal to run I suppose, but as David mentioned - value left unexplored and on the table for sure.

Yesterday we traded away the NHL Flames captain and today we trade away the CPHL Ducks captain. What a great stretch it was with Jarome coming here so many years ago and to win it all in his final season with the team. Leddy scored the overtime winner in game 7 of round one, he was great for the team but as he enters the summer as an rfa it was clear we had to focus our attention elsewhere. Best of luck to those two in Florida and thanks for the trade talks CG.
We now have two of the top three picks in the draft and at this point will likely add some later picks for conditions as we like the top three but after that get a bit more confused!

Yes, I didn't reply to a large number of PM's because a lot of the offers either wanted other huge pieces like Palat, Nyquist, Bjugstad or Zadorov plus #2, which didn't work at all for me, or were not nearly as good value wise to what I pulled the trigger on.
The only offer that was close was with Dave, and it probably had more value but it was more long term and I chose the immediate help vs the long term help. I could've flipped the picks that Dave was going to send me for something slightly more than what I ended up getting, but it wouldn't have been that much better overall. About as much value as a 2nd, and that's if I'd have managed to find people wanting to make good offers.
When you make offers on a high end asset, don't low ball. Make a good offer. Ravi's offer was good, so was Dave's. That was it.

My offer was not answered as well and I specifically stated I was open to other types of deals as well and to let me know what you wanted. I think I could have beaten the offer if given some type of direction on what type of return you wanted from me. But as long as both teams are happy that is all that matters I guess.

I asked for direction as well. I could come up with an offer based on that direction but the PM was not replied to.

The problem when I looked at your team, is that you have too good of players, and not quite as good of players as the ones I ended up with + high end nearly ready guys. If I would've attempted to get one of the really good players it would've been #2 plus one of the players I didn't want to move which was a no go. I didn't really want nearly ready guys (I already have a lot of those) and if I targeted say Eric Staal on a 1 for 1 I might still have had to add a bit. I just didn't see a fit where we would've both been happy.
Between all of that, I felt getting the two pieces that will help significantly for next year was better than one and that was the move that best fit what I am wanting, namely not sucking any more. I hate having my team being at or near the bottom.

The only guys that were interesting from my POV were Perron Fowler and Ryan. It would've taken 2 without a huge add on to make me pull the trigger on that. I would've been shocked if you would've said yes to that.

for what its worth i was open to something around Backstrom and I also offered Stastny + B. Smith. No feedback was given on either....
If there is nothing i have of interest to you then tell me. If that is not the case, then give me an idea when i ask...never know what you may get.

That's what it actually is.
If you strip out the equivalent players it's Benn for Jurco, Eakin, Pirri, Gaunce, Leddy and Iginla

You should have taken my offer, but I am not upset you didn't. You trading that 1st to Anaheim is actually way better for me!

You could have had Staal. Shouldn't have assumed you would have to add. I was in a trading mood today and looking to make a big move.

I do almost all of my trading via PM, and imo, a GM is responsible for responding to every message/offer that he receives. Every year we have threads started due to the fact that people don't reply to PMs at all or just take an awful long time to respond. To me that is the issue here. I don't think anyone would really care which offer or deal you make but at least respond to people.
