Didn't see it posted, so again apologize if fata. I learned about this a couple of weeks ago and am pretty surprised it took this long to gain any damn traction in the Western world. For those that don't know, approximately 250 Nigerian schoolgirls were kidnapped by a terrorist organization who have now threatened to sell them into marriage.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/05/05/world/...bducted-girls/

And Obama is stepping up by sending U.S. officials to help find the girls.

If anyone feels like getting involved, I've read that the Nigerian Red Cross Society is providing aid to victims affected by Boko Haram.

http://www.ifrc.org/en/what-we-do/wh...cross-society/

Also, an organization I always recommend supporting is Plan Canada. They do a lot of work trying to protect young girls across the globe from this kind of nonsense.

thing that really irks me about this is the Nigerian government hasn't seemed to take this seriously for weeks.

This is one of those times when social media has actually been hugely beneficial. The outrage and the hashtag explosion seems to be what finally got the government off their asses and got other world leaders involved. It's disgusting that it had to come to that, but at least twitter is good for something.

I just hope this leads to some kind of resolution and doesn't turn into another Kony 2012

I was watching that report this morning and feeling sick to my stomach.

I have my doubts that those girls are even in that country any more and a number of them are dead.

To me it will be interested to see who the American's send in. I don't think you can negotiate with these people for the release of the girls, they'll kill them all at the first sign of trouble.

They're also a primitive force so chances are things that will help you find them like radio intercepts, raids and retreats and stuff like that might not bear fruit.

Basically you roll in all of the satellites and drones that you can deploy and search every square foot of that country.

Send in deep cover patrols to search hidy holes and use something like Delta Force HRTs or Seal Teams with aviation support.

But I don't believe that police officials and hostage negotiators will do much good.

This was one of my big concerns. If these guys hear the Americans are coming, how long until they start leaving dead little girls to send a message?

There are many issues like this that are taking place across the middle east and Africa and will not stop just by our awareness. The people and nations funding these groups must be 'convinced' to help stop this violence. We are doing nothing about this.

What do you suggest?

Going to war against nation states funding extremist terrorist groups?

The biggest problem after 9/11 is that Al Queda became what it was originally designed to be. A phone book of separate terrorist groups using the name as a common force multiplier of fear.

The logic of it is that nation states such as Iran, Saudi Arabia to name a few are funding it, attacking them or punishing them destabilizes the entire region.

Its a tough box.

All I can say is these groups of people responsible for such horrific acts better hope I'm not reincarnated as a god, because I have a feeling I would be one vengeful deity.

Very tough, for sure. I think isolation and clearly drawn lines would be a good start. This is only going to get worse.

The western nations should send in their respective special forces be it JTF-2, SAS, Delta and wipe those kidnapping barbarians off the face of the earth. Send in the sheepdogs to deal with wolves not more sheep.

I didn't say we should do nothing, more like we have been ignoring the violence for years, and even excusing much of it. I don't know what the solution is, thousands are getting killed, and we know which nations are funding all of it.

We can risk our soldiers lives to try to save these people, but it won't stop the same thing or worse from happening again.

From what I heard a lot of these Boko Haram are fellow villagers who just go back to blending into the community. This makes trying to attack them difficult and also scares the villagers from resisting.

It's pretty sickening that our media covers so much of the trash it does, yet this stuff has been going on for close to five years and we barely know anything about it.

very sad that this can happen, and that there is no resolution.

I don't think people in the 1st world, like us here in canada, realize just how good we have it.
