Blues Extend Coach Ken Hitchcock
St. Louis Blues @StLouisBlues
BREAKING: Hitchcock has been extended through 2014-15; Shaw and Bennett will remain with coaching staff.
Last chance for him to do something significant?

Good coach but I was expecting a change.
I'd say last chance to at least make it deeper into the playoffs

I'd guess if they don't make it to at least the conference finals, he's done.

I felt pretty bad for the blues this year that they had to play the hawks in the first round. I really think the blues could have taken anyone else in the conference so it would be unfair to get rid of hitch. That said, bad luck can't be excused for consistent failure, it's put up or shut up next season.

So he only got a one year extension? Not really a big vote of confidence.
I agree the Blues will have the make the conference finals for him to get another extension.

Suprised he got an extension given how they finished the season and carried that over into the play offs. With so many vacancies though a 1 year extension was the safe thing to do, some team woulkd have snagged him up in an instant.

The St. L climb upward stopped just as soon as John Davidson moved to Columbus....
Bouwmeester, Leopold, Roy and Miller were not moves that helped the team win a playoff round.
Huge mistake by the Flames owners in not making room for Davidson when he was available for a brief time and I think expressed interest in Calgary.

The right move. Hitch is great, but the Blues aren't quite constructed well enough to allow him to take them on a significant run.
I expect some tinkering, maybe the infusion of a big name player up front to complement that deep D-core.

I disagree with the idea that if a coach doesn't make it so far into the playoffs, he should be ousted. It seems a bit superstitious and if your coach is actually good, it will likely only make your team worse next year.
A good coach is a good coach. If you've got one keep him, they're hard to find, but whatever you do don't fire the guy just because lady luck didn't cut you a break this time.

They did fire assistant coach Gary Agnew and goalie coach Corey Hirsch.

Hitchcock. Shaw. Bennett.
That's a cool sounding group of names. Those are Shoot Out at the OK Corral names.

He's never been a great coach, an innovator, a maverick.
He's meat and potatoes, trap trap trap and that can work when you have some game-breakers on offense, but he doesn't.
That's a team that should have waited to see what other dead coaching bodies hit the water after the playoffs, before re-signing Hitch.

Maybe he should go coach in the KHL.
