Other than Flames or Habs, which Canadian team makes playoffs next?
Title is self explanatory. I'd bet leafs or jets. Kind of hoping for a poll?

Leafs or Canucks.. Hate the Canucks but I can't see that roster underachieving again so badly this year. I hope they are in the playoffs / out of the mix for top players in the coming draft. And then I hope they make 1-2 more seasons worth of short-sighted "win-now" moves.. Treading water until they eventually sink into nothingness.
Leafs I have less hate for.

The thread title confuses me.
It says "Other than Flames or Habs, which Canadian playoff team makes playoffs next?"
Since there is only one Canadian playoff team, the only option is Montreal. But the title does not allow me to pick Montreal, so I am in a bit of a pickle here.
To answer the question seriously though, I say the Leafs make it next year, and MAYBE Vancouver.

Jets will not make the playoffs anytime soon in the west.
They couldn't even do it in the east. Perennial .500 team.

The only logical reply is any Canadian team except the oilers, they are simply no good.

Canucks had a terrible year, but they're getting worse, not better. Goaltending is a huge question mark and the core, especially the Sedins, are aging. They have tough contracts with total passengers like Booth (Wellwood 2.0) and a D that's destined to take a step backward. They're on the bubble next year at best.
The Jets have some pieces and good youth but the Kane situation is a problem. If they move him for something that helps right now they have a chance.
It hurts to say but the Leafs should have made it this year. They'll be in next year.
Ottawa's 50/50.
Edmonton is no good.

East is weak - Leafs or Sens.

I would hate to be a fan and have that happen to my team.

Considering all 3 years the Jets have played, they have been in contention nearly to the very end, I think it is a definite possibility.
It all depends on goaltending. If the Jets management makes Pavelec their #1 goalie, we miss the playoffs. If Hutch can steal the starting position, we make the playoffs.

Jets are close but their GM never makes moves and has already stated Pavlec is back as #1 next year. If all he does is tinker with Frolik and Setoguchi types that team stays on the treadmill of mediocrity. However if Chevy is able to shake that roster up they have a good chance but Chevy never makes moves. Would be a frustrating team to be a fan of

God I hope that happens to the Canucks, they can go through multiple coaches always blaming the coach for the teams failings. They can go through multiple player solutions to try to find that one special player to play with their top players to put them over the hump, the whole time being completely blind to the pathetic leadership on their own team that will ensure that they will be no good until they gut their core.

Leafs. Would not be surprised if they get in next year.
As for next canadian team to win the cup I would say Montreal. I would put Calgary second only because I think they are going to build the team the right way. I could see all other canadian teams trying to retool on the fly, which might get them into playoffs but not lifting the cup.

It looks like it might be a while before a western Canadian team makes it.
Winnipeg looks closest, but they have issues in goal, and perennially appear to be fielding offers for Buff and Kane. Might end up starting over before they break through.
