Default How Far In Advance Can Draft Picks Be Traded?

Is there a maximum number of years in advance that NHL GMs can trade their draft picks?

I recall seeing picks traded 2-3 years in advance. Is there an NHL rule that picks can only be traded so many years in advance of a draft?

Even if there was a limit, I'd be surprised if any teams traded picks that were more than 3 years away.

Just too many unknowns at play.

I agree 100%. I was asking about the actual rule of it because a friend of mine and I were chatting about deals that include future considerations.

He said if he was a GM, instead of trading for "future considerations", he'd just make the trade for say a 7th round pick in 2042 instead. I told him I don't think you could trade that far in advance, but wasn't 100% sure.
