Good, no need. I still think from 1-5 you're going to get a legit top line/pairing player. The only reason I might make it a top 4 and leave Dal Colle out is because he's just a winger.

what is he gonna say "our guy will be gone we need to move up!"
although the top 5 are pretty even this year so it does seem kinda pointless

He also said Colborne is like Steckel in order to temper expectations, even though that turned out to not be the case; even further, he reiterated many times over that Gaudreau isn't small, he's tiny...

With no real #1 and the Flames needing to get top end prospects in all areas...I am glad the Flames wont be giving up assets to move up in the draft.

Will the new GM be in place before the draft? I thought most teams would either (a) refuse to give permission to speak to their guys until post-draft or (b) give permission to speak to their employee on the condition that they can't take part in the 2014 draft.
I hope Burke lays the ground work to develop a deal with Buffalo to select Ekblad if Florida doesn't take him (assuming we don't make a deal with Florida). I don't want to trade up for much. I think the scouting staff has made big strides the past 4-5 years and the Flames' 2nds are worth more than they were pre-2009.

It's definitely curious, that has been the mantra the whole time. Maybe there is something in the George McPhee rumours, as he'd be free to take the job as it appears his contract won't be renewed and will expire.

Jesus Christ, no. Let Button and the scouts run the draft and take your time to hire a new, young, hockey mind. McPhee would be Nieuwendyk level awful.

Hopefully regardless Burke leaves it up to his scouts who've been watching these players for 2+ years.
