Sportsnet Production Quality
Alright... something has got to give here. I can't believe that we will have no choice but to deal with this crap for 75+ games next year. My ultimate goal for creating this thread is that someone from Sportsnet will take notice and do something about it. Please feel free to add to this thread with whatever changes you would like to see because I know there are quite a few...
1. I am sick and tired of having Kerr call a goal before the puck actually goes in. It can't be that hard to get your damn audio in sync is it?!
2. I am tired of hearing Charlie Simmers long boring ass stories during the middle of the play. No one cares Charlie... no one cares.
3. Overall production quality. Can we at least try and make these games somewhat exciting? I love when games are on TSN and CBC. Not only do they do a much better job analyzing the game but they actually put some effort into the overall production.
4. Get a new studio set. TSN actually has an appealing studio set... Sportsnets reminds me of something I used to see in the 90's
I'm going to go have a smoke now.

I would also complain about the quality of the High Definition Sportsnet is using. It seems really grainy to me compared with what NBC, CBC & TSN are using.

"Sportsnet" and "quality" are mutually exclusive. It's a 3rd rate production with 3rd rate talent. I expect next season they will spend a little more on the national broadcasts than the chump change they spend on regional broadcasts but don't expect regional Flames broadcasts to be of higher quality than the current amateur standard they have set for themselves.

There's not one single redeeming element to Sportsnet's production. I dislike it all.
It's why these days I watch the other team's feed whenever I can.

They desperately need to figure out what TSN does and copy it. Whether it's upping the crowd noise for atmosphere, getting the colour commentator between the benches, etc... Sportsnet needs to do something. The other day I was flipping between the 2 productions and the difference was tremendous. On Sportsnet you had Kerr using his golf commentator / fake smile tone laughing at some bad joke Simmer laid out while talking about how the new kids just want to have a solid game and limit mistakes, blah, blah, blah. On the TSN, you had Ferraro (who I don't really like) ramping up the intensity with some technical analysis of how one team was exploiting the other teams weaknesses in a tone that screamed intensity with the crowd noise dialed up so you felt like you were there. The Sportsnet broadcast felt like you were watching curling. Really boring curling!

Thinking that sportsnet will keep the same production value as they have on their regional broadcasts for the national coverage next year is silliness.

Although it's probably on the cheap side which is why they do it, I can't believe Sportsnet puts such a weak effort into the Flames regional broadcasts. When you see the broadcasts on Fox Sports Network or other regional channels, they blow Sportsnet out of the park in term of professionalism as well excitement. How Sportsnet can offer such a boring and unexciting the production audio and graphics is beyond me. You figure pride would kick in to do a better job.

I'm sure Kerr and all the people that get by on meagre SN pay all have a lot of pride in what they do so I don't think it's fair to blame the regular people that are just doing the best they can with the tools and talent provided. It's Rogers management that has no pride or shame. They have the secured rights and TSN doesn't which is all they care about. The quality of the broadcasts reflect on Rogers management and their blatant disregard of fans.
Frankly I'm most surprised that King and the Flames can accept their product being showcased in this manner. To me it's more disappointing than Rogers blatant disregard for the product. I would be demanding accountability here and doing everything possible to find a loophole in the contract to get out and move to what will soon be a TSN that will be starved for any chance they can get at broadcasting NHL. The Flames are going to have a tough time bringing in new young fans with broadcasts that could put even the biggest NHL fan to sleep. I'm being completely honest in that I would probably rather watch a TSN broadcast of a game not involving the Flames over a RSN Flames broadcast as this stage of the season where the games really don't matter just because it would hold my attention longer. I sure hope the Flames are listening to fans here.

You don't think TSN would? Seriously?
The Flames are paying Rogers a lot of money and we as fans should be able to expect better than this. Never, ever settle for substandard or that's all you will ever get.

How do you know that? Was Sportsnet the only channel bidding for Flames regional rights when they signed the latest deal?

Just look to Edmonton for proof. Or simply Edmonton is no good.

Send Kerr + Simmer back to radio. They're ok for a talk show on air & call ins etc, but don't belong in a PBP booth.
Get Gary Thorne & Bill Clement instead. Crank up on ice sound and crowd noise.

Kerr needs to stop calling "PENALTY SHOT" whenever the referee points to the general direction of centre ice.

NHL gamecenter and it has the option to watch the other team's broadcast. Without a doubt sportsnet is probably bottom 5 in the league for regional broadcasts. It's shockingly bad, I would rather listen to the game on the radio than listen to Charlie simmer and rob kerr stumble through a game.

Pretty sure the broadcaster pays the team and not the other way around, thus the bidding. Sportsnet outbid tsn back when it was due (someone here might know how long ago that was, I don't). The 12 year deal was for national, there's nothing saying tsn might outbid them next time for the regional broadcasts.
Im hopeful that the quality will go up once more "infrastructure" is in place for the national broadcasts.
I didn't like Kerr at first (really didn't like him for those Flames PPV's he used to do) but he's grown on me.
