HNIC 2013-2014 schedule including playoffs!!
For the upcoming season, there will be 26 Saturdays, 21 of them being doubleheaders and five tripleheaders. Television viewers with extra CBC channels and online viewers can enjoy 16 two way split telecasts and five 3 way split telecasts.
There will also be nine additional days HNIC will have hockey games. The season opener on Tuesday, October 1 will be a doubleheader, the New Year's Day game on a Wednesday, two Thursday games, two Friday games, and three Sunday games.
The NHL website is accurate.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/schedulebysea...ork=CBC&venue=
There are currently some errors and omissions on the CBC website.

I am impressed that there will be four split telecasts at 2000h. That is a major improvement and it shows that complaining works!

Thanks Hwyman. I can never understand why CBC don't do more tripleheaders instead of the two and three way splits. I long for the day Saturday television is bumper-to-bumper hockey like the NFL has on Sundays.

Agreed. During the fall, football rules the weekends, but once their seasons are over, Saturday is left wide open. NHL should dominate that day with it's scheduling.

The problem with doing consistent triple or quadruplet headers is that teams do not like playing in too many matinees. The main reasons are that there are less television viewers and the majority of fans prefer Saturday games being played in the evening.

Could they fit in 3 evening games?
Let's say the Leafs game is at 6pm ET, The Jets game starts at 8:30pm ET and the Canucks game starts at 11:00pm ET. There might be a bit of overlap and everyone plays at night!
Even the Leafs or Habs could start a game at 8:30pm on a Saturday night.

It can be done. In a lot of cases the games are already on the schedule. 4 Eastern, 3 Central, 2 Mountain, 1 Pacific isn't too early. Games don't necessarily have to have a Canadian team in them, but even if they do with 7 teams it shouldn't be too much trouble. The Flames play Saturday matinee games in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Buffalo this year.

Hockey day in Canada Jan 18th. I personally would like to see them move the Sens game to 1:00 Easter, and the Jets/Oil game to 4:00 Eastern. All the Fluff crap they do from 5 - 7 eastern, that none of us watch can be moved to earlier in the morning.

The Leafs play on CBC every Saturday except Dec28, Jan11, and March 15. In Calgary, will we get a steady diet of the buds (yuck), or will the 5:00 game be distributed between the Jets, Habs, Sens and Leafs?

I would certainly hope the CBC decreases the amount of Leafs games shown in the western provinces. The Jets are now a western conference team so this could mean a few more of their games get shown in Alberta, British Columbia, and the territories. A rotation of the teams would be a decent solution.
The Habs play every Saturday except on November 9. It would be nice to have a few more of their games shown nationally especially if they are doing better in the standings than the stinkin' Leafs.

The 2.5 hour time slot would overlap into the next game as it normally does on TSN. Many viewers do not like missing the beginning of a game and joining it in progress. The three hour block does work and it allows for the pre-game ceremonies that happens frequently in Montreal and Toronto. The 2300h eastern start would be too late for Atlantic and Eastern timezone viewers fans to watch the start of the Canucks home games or games in the Pacific timezone.

^ One of my peeves with TSN is that they often do their double headers as 5:30 and 8:00, and the first game almost always runs into the second. And the second game is often the game that I want to watch.
I'm not sure why TSN wouldn't want to have a slight gap in between the games for ads (and maybe even a little analysis/interviews/build-up). What would the extra 30 minutes cut into? One of the many repeats of SportsCentre that loop endlessly all night?

I agree, it is super annoying. Sometimes they'll put the beginning of the 2nd game onto TSN2, but there have been more than enough times where they are showing another game or sport on TNS2 so they won't cut that for the double header either.

I guess one thing different thing being a Leaf or Hab compared to every other team is that you never get your Saturday nights off during the season.

The Senators used to play nearly every Saturday evening as well until three seasons ago. Since then, less games are played on that day. The main reasons for the reduction, the CBC was not airing all their games and which led to regional coverage of Saturday games on Sportsnet as long as they were played in the afternoon.

The CBC has released its distribution for the split telecast of the 1700h Mountain games for October 5.
Philadelphia at Montreal is for the province of Quebec only.
Toronto at Ottawa is for everywhere else.

Tonight is the first doubleheader of the season on HNIC, Leafs at Sabres followed by the Canucks at Oilers.
Last Saturday was the first game on HNIC for the new season, the Kraft hockeyville game between the Capitals and the Jets from Stirling-Rawdon Ontario.

You'd show the Leafs too if you were in charge of CBC. Leafs=the most money.

Actually, I think leafs fans will be leafs fans no matter what. If you showed other teams, you might actually get other fans to watch. They could never show a leafs game on HNIC and still be ok because leafs fans will find a way to watch just like stupid Flames Fans in Ontario will find a way to watch games when all they show around here are stupid leafs games!
