X-Men director Brian Singer accused of under age sex w/ 17 yr old boy
Just fair warning, the details given in this link are fairly graphic.
http://www.thewrap.com/bryan-singer-...g-underage-boy
Quote:
Lawsuit alleges Singer “manipulated his power” to exploit 17-year-old boy
“X-Men” director Bryan Singer is being accused of drugging, raping, and using his power to exploit a teenage boy in a lawsuit filed Wednesday, according to court documents obtained by TheWrap.
According to the lawsuit filed in federal court in Hawaii, plaintiff Michael Egan, who was named in a press release by his lawyers, was 17 when he was forcibly sodomized by Singer, among other accusations.
|
Quote:
Defendant, BRYAN JAY SINGER, manipulated his power, wealth, and position in the entertainment industry to sexually abuse and exploit the underage Plaintiff through the use of drugs, alcohol, threats, and inducements which resulted in Plaintiff suffering catastrophic psychological and emotional injuries. Defendant Singer did so as part of a group of adult males similarly positioned in the entertainment industry that maintained and exploited boys in a sordid sex ring. A Hollywood mogul must not use his position to sexually exploit underage actors.
|
Uhh.. hope this isn't true. Seems a bit fishy.. especially considering the timing.
Quote:
“Plaintiff was often forced to consume alcoholic beverages and drugs, and was also surreptitiously administered drugs when they were placed in beverages that he consumed,” the lawsuit reads.

Seems very fishy...like why did he wait 15 years to file a suit? Apparently he says he was also "promised" roles in the new X-Men movie.

He's not the age of majority, but consent age is 16 in Hawaii so is "underage" even applicable here?
Not appropriate still, but not illegal and definitely not in the realm of the usual cases when underage is used.

Yeah, seems a bit like sensationalist journalism to use the word "underage" in this circumstance.

Although something does seem a bit off in this story it is actually very common for victims of this type of abuse to wait as long as decades before coming forward.

A rare case of male rape. And such a moderate reaction on this thread. I'm surprised really. I have a feeling if it was a woman in this instance, CP would be up in arms.

Let's not forget the alleged use of drugs and alcohol on a person not of drinking age.

To be fair there have been threads on here before involving Female teachers and students of the same age. There were a number of posters were of the opinion that there was no issues, "high fives" all around!

Yeah, I guess I just don't see that as something that was likely forced on a person. It's illegal to provide alcohol to a minor though, so I guess there's that.

I'm not at ALL saying this wasn't rape, or wasn't wrong, or that Bryan Singer isn't some despicable loser that took advantage of a young man, but isn't "rapist" enough? That to me is shocking and disgusting, you don't need to say "rapist pedophile" to drive the point home.

Fair enough. That type of attitude towards these cases is also one of the reasons male victims of sexual abuse don't come forward as often. When what is a very traumatic event to them is approached with a "who cares, you should be thankful!" attitude it can be almost as damaging as the original incident.

Well can we agree that there is a difference between a 16-17 year old consensually sleeping with a early 30's teacher/boss/etc.. and someone forcibly raping a child? As someone not far removed from the late-teen age range, I can say that there are for sure some teachers I had in highschool that I definitely would have and, had I somehow ended up hooking up with one, I would have received a gauntlet of high-fives and a statue in my honor. And I know that there were male teachers that would have elicited the same response from the girls. Obviously this is not true with all and probably most cases like this, but it is a reality.
Obviously we don't know anything about this situation and I don't make up my mind about anything until I hear the whole story. But my initial reaction upon reading it is that a young person hooked up with an older person of power in their chosen profession to try and get ahead. Didn't end up getting ahead and now the aftermath. If they're above the age of consent and they did indeed consent, the only issue I see is providing booze/drugs to a minor as a few have mentioned. But again, I will wait until more information comes out before solidifying an opinion either way.

This story is going to create quite the storm. Rape is a terrible beast.
But seriously, this is terrible. Just allegations at this point though, hope it's not true. I think we have a tendency to demonize someone the second they're accused.

It's likely Kevin Smith is already working on a sequel to Zack and Miri with all the joke potential this X-Men thing has.

Yeah, I'm tempted to wait until a court convicts him to pass judgement. Just like a girl can falsely accuse someone of rape, a guy can too. It's tough to know what to believe, but waiting 15 years to file is kind of iffy.

You mean like when Fleury waited nearly two decades to release details about Graham James? That's a really ####ty argument.
