The obvious choice. There's no way you can send that message to your fans that you expect to be worse than 26th next year.
As a tactical decision ... will have to wait until next year to see if it was a good one

I reaaaaly reaaaaaaaly hope their 2015'er turns into a top 3 pick.
How Snow continues to work as an NHL GM is baffling.

I'd prefer Buffalo not stack top end picks in their tank year.

I don't think the Isles finish in the bottom 5 again next year. It was a wise decision to keep this one since you know the position of it already.

That and the Islanders picking in the top five means there would possibly be another thing picking ahead of us (assuming we're in the lottery again).
I hope the Islanders do really well next year, screw the Sabres.

Still lots of talk that the Islanders will trade this pick for immediate help.

That's logical, but I think they could justify it this time.
There are arguably 2 generational talents next year, and even if they improve next (as they should be trying to do), a ticket in that lottery is worth quite a bit.
I am sickened at the fact that Buffalo may very well land both McDavid and Eichel.

Good. Would rather have next years.
Now I hope for another catastrophic season on Long Island. Hopefully even worse than usual.

Assuming he goes to NYI at 5, Dal Colle - Tavares - Okoposo will end up being a heck of a line.
With the amount of cap-space and the young, cheap talent they have - NYI could end up being a decent team next year IF they're allowed the spend a bit more money.

I hope Buffalo ends up in Edmonton Oilers territory. For good.

don't want to derail the thread and maybe you've already answered that somewhere else, but as a fan, who do you think/hope the Sabres will pick this year?

Probably because it just feels unfair (even though it is not) that Buffalo will do very well over the next two drafts.
I will definitely be a bit disheartened if they clean up this year and next and are competing and even cup winning in the next 5 years. Just hard to watch coming from the Flames point of view I suppose.
No love lost though, good luck to Buffalo, just don't want them to have too many advantages :P

I'm just curious to see if the Sabres bother to do anything to try to be even a little better next year or if their intentions are to just straight tank like it looks to be so far.

I have a feeling it'll be Reinhart. No inside information or anything, just a hunch. He's who I'm hoping for at least... we already have a lot of big D prospects similar to Ekblad (not quite on that level, but close), and I really am wary about Draisaitl. Either of Reinhart or Bennett is great in my books, I've just seen more of Reinhart and was really impressed how he stepped up in the WHL playoffs.

Same. I hope the Isles do well... I don't want a single team (other then Calgary) having two high picks in a deep draft.

We also have St. Louis' pick next year. Highly unlikely it'll be a lottery pick, but you never know...

People laugh at Oil for tanking, well, Sabres have just rewritten that book, a monumental tank job.
