Flames to partner with Calgary Fire Department
On Sportscentre yesterday, they showed a clip of Iginla carrying a fireman's helmet.
This is why...
Instead of the old green hard hat (which I believe is still in the Hall of Fame), or the other things they've used over the years since, this year, the player of the game after a win will be seen wearing the fireman's helmet.
Based on the video, it sounds like it's going to be a larger partnership between the two organizations, and when the Flames win the Cup, the fire department will provide trucks for the parade.

Sounds like a good partnership. Can't say I'm in favour of licencing out locker room traditions when I think they really should arise organically, but what do I know.

So if they're replacing the current hat with an airbrushed one after 3 weeks, what happens if we're on a streak? Do they swap it out or keep with superstition?
Have to agree with HP. The idea is great, but that was the first thing I thought of. Aren't these traditions created by the players?
Or, because we're seeing some sweet access this year already, perhaps this is common place?
Did we partner with any construction workers in 03/04?

Sheesh guys, it's not like they've turned it into the Coca Cola's hardest worker of the game award.

I hope the organization moves as far away form 2004 as much as possible. Wash away the stigma that the cup run and the many failed attempts to live up to it afterwards brought. Like Feaster said, Clean slate for everyone and the organization.

It looks like they took the video offline. Weird.

if this is a sign that there'll be a looser, happier atmosphere with the team it can only be a good thing.

whose to say it wasn't a player who brought up the idea? i remember a short clip on TSN a few days ago showing Iginla and a couple of other players carrying what looked like a fire helmet into the dressing room. when asked about it Iggy smiled and said they weren't ready to show what they've been working on yet, so it seems like the players are having fun with it already

It could be taking something they were planning on doing and adding a community involvement/give back segment to it. It has potential to be pretty cool.

The guy said that they are getting one airbrushed with the Calgary fire department logo and the Flames logo. Pretty cool idea and gesture from the CFD.

If you haven't seen the video on the Flames site, you should do so. I fully believe in Hartley, I think he is going to be a good fit in this organization.
It's a good sign to see him do this speech on video, for the public to see. I believe if Sutter was still coach, this video would not be seen.
I don't see this as a marketing ploy. This is something to work for, and it should help the Flames build a great team dynamic this season.

*Bump*
As the season comes to an end I was wondering if anyone has a list of all the fireman's helmet winners. I was just curious who won it the most, and couldn't find it anywhere.

I don't mind the partnership with the CFD, but I miss the old siren. The new fire siren just doesn't feel the same.
