Question Chromecast Or Roku Streaming Stick?

I'm really stuck deciding on getting a Chromecast Or Roku Streaming Stick.

My family does have all Android phones and tablets, but I hear the Roku has more content at the moment.

What would you guys choose and why?

The Roku stick looks like it'll be coming in at $60. For the extra $20 difference, you would be getting more apps to stream from (namely NHL Gamecenter though not quite the same kind of service in the states). You'd have to take a look and see if there are any other streaming services you would use that the Roku can do that the Chromecast cannot.

Otherwise, while the Chromecast is still an infant relatively, you can look at it in a positive light and say how it'll catch up to the Roku for streaming capabilities, and surpass it when it comes to long growth potential.

Reason I went for the Chromecast is because it's $20 cheaper (likely to buy another one making the savings significant) and may family doesn't really stream anything. It's nice for Youtube, but I enjoy Plex mainly (which I know I could have gotten on the Roku as well).

Chrome seems like it would have more long term potential, but in reality the cost for either is pretty minimal.

Are all the US channels on the Roku available in Canada or is it like Netflix (US, Can, UK)?

Going roku just for the game centre integration. I am sure chromecast will catch up, but for that price I will reward them now.

Be sure you have a compatible TV first if you are getting the roku stick. If you check the website only a small list of TV's are compatible. I was considering the same thing but ended up going with a second Roku 3 instead.

I've noticed a few Android apps for streaming your games from a tablet to the Chromecast to play on TV with the tablet working as a remote. I wonder if the Roku is capable of that as well?

Thanks for your advice and opinions, guys. I ended up ordering a Chromecast, as I think it will be worth it long-term.

Plex is available for chromecast.

If you have a compatible iOS or Android handset or tablet, I'd go with chromecast.

If you want to use an on screen guide and a dedicated remote, go roku.

You were looking at the wrong webpage. The new Roku stick just requires HDMI, was JUST released in the states, and not available here for another 3 days.

My bad, I thought it required MHL but I see it does not. I retract my previous statement based on this new information.

I like the fact that the roku is stand alone. I have had a few friends get a chrome cast then realize they need a device to stream to it.

I'm very biased however as I have 3 rokus in my house and have convinced pretty much everyone I know to buy one as well. The plex integration is so much smoother on roku IMO.

Got my chromecast! I like being able to stream tabs from my desktop to it. Why can't I do that from my phone?

Does the 32bit version of plex server work with Roku?
