Huge Kootenay Ice fan and was pumped when they got him. So scary to hear about this. Tonight at the Ice game, they'll going to have a massive "get well" card that all the fans can sign and leave a message.
Nice gesture by the organization.

Crazy how quickly he went downhill from playing in a game and scoring on Friday to hospitalized on Sat. Hope he pulls through, such a young kid to be battling for his life.

I lost my cousin to this. I sure hope he comes out of it OK. Maybe they caught it in time.

That's terrible.
Do you know what the typical prognosis is for this sort of thing?

Pick up a bug and be very unlucky.
Vaccinations are available, though I'm not 100% on if it's routine or available if asked for

Depends on the agent. If it's viral or bacterial, it's fair to good. If it's amoebic or protozoan, it's really poor.

Neisseria meningitidis (meningococcus). This bacterium is another leading cause of bacterial meningitis. Meningococcal meningitis commonly occurs when bacteria from an upper respiratory infection enter your bloodstream. This infection is highly contagious. It affects mainly teenagers and young adults, and may cause local epidemics in college dormitories, boarding schools and military bases. There is a vaccine to help reduce the occurrence of this infection.

I saw that. I was giving a general answer. But I do have to say that I only glanced at the linked article at first and thought I read Naegleria (which is really, really bad).

Had a conversation with doctors treating him yesterday and the prognosis was good. full recovery expected.
The recovery process is long though.
