Who is next season's Joe Colborne?
Anyone interested in a Joe Colborne type reclamation project for next season?
Decided to look at former early draft picks that have been bouncing around between the NHL and AHL this season (i.e. those who can't seem to earn a full time NHL roster spot yet) and are waiver eligible starting next season. Figure some teams will trade them like Toronto did with Colborne rather than lose them on waivers for nothing.
Just to be clear, I am not saying that there is a good or even probable chance that these guys end up on waivers or traded. Just that if some of these guys don't make the team out of training camp due to bad performance, too much organizational depth, etc, their respective teams may have to make some tough decisions on whether to trade them, waive them, healthy scratch them or move other players out for them.

Also keep in mind if the Flames were to acquire any of the aforementioned players, they would likely have to keep them with the NHL team for the whole season or lose them to waivers (i.e. no assigning to the AHL)

pretty sure Pirri has found a home in Florida, he's been good for them (7 points in 11 games). I have seen Panik quite a bit with the Lightning and I'm not too impressed.
Would take a flyer on Linden Vey though. Smith-Pelley and Morin are interesting as well.

Pelley looked like he belonged every time I've seen him play. Assuming Selanne is done, he'll likely stay with the Ducks though.
Also, WTF happened to Scott Glennie? 8th overall and his numbers are brutal in the AHL.

Greg Nemisz already became waiver eligible this year. This list focuses on former high ranked draft picks that will become waiver eilgible next season

I wonder if Burke will look at Carter Ashton, he is a big body. I don't know much about the others. NO on the Greg Nemisz...blah.

That Tim Erixon guy seems legit.
Maybe we could trade Granlund and Wotherspoon for him.

Baertschi, Sven.
Don't even need to trade for him.
EDIT: Sorry, missed the waiver eligible part.

From that list, I like Despres. Pens won't move him for anything the Flames would be willing to part with though. More realistically, maybe Leblanc?
Can we get Tim Erixon, stick him in Alaska, and just forget about him?

Either one/two of Connolly, Blacker, Smith-Pelley, Morin and even Elliott would be nice pickups IMO.
Right handed D and Right handed F are all lacking on the Flames.

The Kings are very high on Vey. Brett Connolly has been in trade rumours a lot. So has Despres but that's because he has significant value. A lot of these guys are too highly valued to end up being odd men out. Especially a guy like Elliot, who fills a specific area of organizational shallowness for his club; I would think they'll give him as much chance as possible.

yeah but the question is if/where he can stay with the Kings next year. I doubt there's a spot in the top 9 for him and he's not exactly your prototypical 4th line grinder.

Connolly, Smith-Pelley or Vey to be guys to target for a spot on RW
Despres for D
All depends on teams ability to create a space for these guys, and how much has to be paid. Connolly for one has dropped off, but has potential, and he could be a part of a bigger deal, or a guy nabbed for a pick

Ferraro and Elliot would be my picks.
Connolly isnt going anywhere and even if he were, he needs top line minutes/linemates to be successful. It isnt to say he cant earn it however I go back to Tampa not letting him go.

Depres would be my pick because I could see a Wotherspoon/Depres pairing being a nice 3/4 in a few years.
