Default Looking to Volunteer: Know Any Small Organizations?

Hey everyone,

I was looking around on the web and thought I would try my luck here as well.

I am looking to volunteer somewhere that has the goal of helping people (especially, children) as a not-for-profit organization. I know there are tons that exist out there, however, I am looking for an organization with under 10 members who needs a lot of help.

This can be in the form of giving them new ideas, working on their website, holding events for fundraisers and much more. I would like to eventually become an integral part of the team and I don't want to be one of hundreds of people who volunteer for a larger organization (which I have done many times and now want to broaden my experience)

I think I have some valuable insight to provide with a background in psychology and business and this is something I have been interested in for a very long time. I want to help grow an organization that has great values and a great mission by bringing in both ideas and eventually more people. I also think it would be an amazing accomplishment to plan events and help those in need (children, abuse victims, individuals with a psychological disorder etc.)

I was wondering if anyone would know of any very small organizations that are needing some help and would PM their information (or provide me with an email or website).

I appreciate all of the help!

Thank-You

A few questions come to mind

Do you prefer to be always hands-on the direct programing or are you interested in the policy/ strategic direction the org is taking? ( or do you want to dabble in both?)

Can you pass a vulnerable sector check?

Are you limited to Calgary or would you consider a group in the Calgary region?
(i.e. you can see the skyline)

Thanks for getting back to me, I PM'ed you the answers to your question.

Hey,

Thank-You very much for getting back to me and I thought it would be better if I answer your questions via PM.

I am interested in all types of work. I am willing to put in the hours to both learn and understand the organization and to be involved with all types of work. I can work in the Calgary region and I will pass the vulnerable sector check.

One of the best and personally rewarding charitable organizations in Calgary to volunteer for is Between Friends Club for Youth with Disabilities. They help families with disabled children and young adults to enjoy some of the recreational activities normal youth can enjoy. They also operate summer camp (Camp Bonaventure) which is when they need most of the volunteers. They also run evening programs throughout the year. The volunteer experience is amazing. To see disabled kids laugh and be happy from the simplest things like singing and dancing, cooking, reading and just watching a movie together is an unforgettable feeling.
