Default Knight's first goal puck myth

Apparently Russell got the puck right away and the whole story about the linesman throwing it over the glass and backlund trading his stick for it is all false:

http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/03/17...ghts-goal-puck

Quote:
“As soon as he scored, I basically went around the goalie, picked it out of the crease and threw it to Depo (equipment manager Mark DePasquale),” Russell said.

DePasquale confirmed it: “I remember because it's the first one I've ever dropped.”

kinda hard to blame Cherry when he probably just saw the highlights and another broadcaster making the claim. This is all Kerr's fault.

How did the story even start? Was it just Kerr shooting off his mouth?

It was pretty obvious at the game that Russell went and grabbed it out of the net while they were celebrating.

Sportsnet showed a linesman throwing a puck over the glass to a girl right after the goal and Kerr said that they had given Knight's puck away.

To be fair to Kerr, we don't know if he saw the puck being thrown over the glass and drew a conclusion or someone (e.g. cameraman or producer in the truck) on Sportsnet's crew told him about it and he took it at their word.

IIRC after a commercial break Sportsnet showed a replay of a ref throwing a puck over the glass after Knights goal, and Kerr thought it was Knights puck. In his defense I thought so too ... I mean why else would SN play a replay of something like that?

EDIT: and of course I'm sureLoss'ed again. You can't be human.

Yeah, I found the story odd because I clearly saw Russell get the puck as well. But Kerr wasn't the only one to think the linesman tossed the puck. Kristen Hallett, iirc, tweeted about Backlund trading his stick for a puck. Maybe even some of the players thought it got tossed?

It might of been a prank. They seem to do that joke a lot in baseball.
