Might want to add to the title that he was found dead.
You made it sound like he was ok...
Depression is a tough battle for sure.

Sad story. Obviously we don't know the full story but the team owners quote about him needing to change to come back on the team look mighty insensitive given the kids depression issues. You'd think the ohl and chl will probably look at some mental health education for coaches/front office going forward.

Sorry guys. Ive changed the title. Is it good now? I don't make many threads, so I don't really know what to do.

His body obviously wasn't in a Walmart parking lot for a week, so there remains some significant questions surrounding his disappearance. But it is extremely sad that his girlfriend (at the least) knew he had depression issues and yet he was still unable to get the support he needed.

Such a sad story. No one wants to see someone end thier life that way.
Courses on depression and suicide should be considered at the junior level. Preventing another incident like this can only happen if players and coaches are better trained to watch for the signs.

Tragic. I bet if he would have gotten drunk and into a fight outside some bar he probably wouldn't have been kicked off the team. But the demon weed and out he goes.

Doesn't matter if it's going to be legal, the fact is it's still illegal. Also, who knows if he had smoked it before a practice or game. The team obviously had a rule against it regardless. I'm sure they have alcohol rules while on the road too, and that's legal. It looks bad on an organization if they let their players get drunk or high and let them get away with it. But whatever happened, it's unfortunate it had to end this way. Depression is a bigger problem than people think.

Lifetime Suspension
|
This reminds me of when Rick Rypien was found three years ago. There needs to be more education and sensitivity training in society, when it relates to people with mental health issues. I'm sure he would still be alive if it was socially acceptable to take time off, and admit that he struggled with this type of problem.

Fair point and I agree with you. It's unfortunate the team didn't get him the help he needed. Lots of people get "addicted" to certain substances and I feel weed is no different. Of course who knows whether or not he was smoking it for recreational purposes or not but I would bet my life this wasn't a one time thing.

There is virtually no chance that he took his life over this issue. People suffering from Mood Disorders have issues that go much deeper than a suspension from a hockey club. He likely struggled with demons since early childhood.

Not every person that struggles with depression wants help, is ready for help or knows how to handle help. He could have all the support in the world, but in the end it's up to him to accept it.

When you suffer from severe depression anything can be the trigger, no matter how small or trivial it seems to everyone else to that person it can feel like the end of the world.
