Exclamation CP Forum Mafia Game - Interest Check

Calgarypuck is fortunate to have a large amount of active posters, so I figured this would be a good place to run a game of Mafia! You might have played a simpler version at parties known as Werewolf or "The Wolf Game". I ran this by the mods and got an all-clear so here we go!

The setup is basically that amongst the players are a majority of town dwellers (or "townies") and a minority of mafia (or "scum"). The town's objective is to figure out the identities of and kill all of the mafia in their midst, whereas the mafia's objective is to kill enough townies to eliminate their majority. Typically about 20% of the players are the mafia.

The catch is that while the mafia know who each other are and can talk freely in private, the townies can only talk publically in the thread and each one knows nothing more than their own role. This is what makes finding the mafia so exciting, as they will conspire to try and throw the townies off track.

The game is split into days. Every day the townies will vote to lynch someone, and by the end of the day the player with the most votes is lynched and their role revealed - they are then out of the game. However, if at any point during the day there is a voting majority for one person (e.g. 8 votes out of 14 people) the day will end immediately and they will be lynched. This is known as the 'hammer'.

After each day comes a night period, during which the mafia decide on an additional player to kill. They are removed from the game and the next day begins. Some special townies also have actions they may perform during the night - for example, the cop may investigate one player per night (and will be told if they are mafia or town) and the doctor may choose one player to protect from being killed that night. The identities of these players are not known by anyone other than the players themselves, which is good for them because otherwise they become clear targets for the mafia.

This is a good guide to follow if you end up playing: http://mafiawiki.notesmash.org/wiki/Main_Page

Registration is full! Thanks for all the interest! There will be another game played after this one, so keep an eye open for that if you missed out here.

I'd be interested if it was pretty vanilla setup. I don't like the versions where everyone and his dog have a power.

Sounds like fun! Plus, I probably wouldn't have to play too long, I'd imagine I'd be a popular choice for the first couple kills haha.

Without giving too much away, my goal is for everyone to have a little fun, even if they might not be powerful roles. Take that as you will, but I hope you give it a shot!

EDIT: To further clarify, it depends on how many people sign up basically.

In the games I play, we usually have a 1 post per real day requirement and I figure that's doable for most people. It also really helps to keep the game moving and stay interesting. If you have to be away for a couple days and at least let me know then it's no problem.

Game days usually last 5-7 real time days (shorter if a played is lynched before the deadline). Inactive players can be subbed out or outright killed.
