Icon36 Tampa trades Martin St. Louis for Callahan, 2015 1st, & conditional 2014 2nd

per McKenzie on TSN

waiting for confirmation it is done but looks like it will be completed

update: done deal

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
More details: the 2nd-rounder in 2014 to Tampa becomes a 1st if NYR gets to conf final; if Callahan re-signs in TB (con'td)

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
then NYR get TB 2nd in 2015 and TB gets Rangers 7th in 2015

Rangers are going to regret this move if true.

Interesting, Mckenzie had to finish a 'text' before he could report this... was he just trying to make sure the post was created on CP BEFORE reporting it? It is the same minute.

With this evidence I submit that sureLoss is in fact, BOB MCKENZIE!!!

Long term maybe, but short term they just picked up the reigning art ross trophy winner that has proven chemistry with one of your centers.

Also Callahan was good but is injury prone and doesn't put up huge points offensively.

Have to think Tampa Bay will be in on some of the wingers now, need to replace the offense from MSL. Could honestly see them kicking tires on Hudler since they would want a player signed past this year IMO and Yzerman would be familiar with him from his time in Detroit.

I'd rather have St. Louis for another 2-3 years then Callahan for a couple months, maybe even years if Callahan wants 7x7.

St. Louis has a year left on his deal, and wants to be a Ranger. Callahan is UFA and demanding a ridiculous contract. Yzerman would be stupid to make the deal without getting picks back, Otherwise he's giving up the better player for a lesser rental. Not sure why it's a surprise that the Rangers are adding.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
No official confirmations (yet) but hearing NYR are prepared to trade Callahan, plus 1st rd pick and 2nd rd pick for Marty St. Louis. Close.

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Assuming St. Louis deal is finalized, I believe Tampa is looking at Callahan as a rental. No appetite for 6 years or $6M per. #Tradecentre

Good return considering he would only waive for one place.

Clock is ticking on St. Louis. Don't get me wrong, the guy is still playing at an elite level. Problem is that Callahan is the exact kind of guy, kind of Captain, they need. What little heart and soul that was left in Edmonton went with Smyth when he exited to Long Island. All over, what, 100 grand? That's essentially what is happening in New York State right now. St. Louis has a lot of heart, but it's not the same kind of substance that I think Callahan has and will have going forward.

I don't think St. Louis is the piece that puts the Rangers where they want to be. Add into that the futures given up and I don't like this move from the Rangers' side.

Sucks for TBay, Marty is the considerably better player and Callahan is a UFA.

Not really sure why Marty wants out. Tampa is much closer to winning a Cup than the Rangers, and who would want to leave playing with Stamkos?

Also, he's about to lose a decent chunk of money on his contracts. New York taxes are brutal. Florida has no income tax. Is he taking being snubbed that personally? Weird.

I wonder how many years he has left in the tank, and if he re-signs with them beyond next season.
