Default Car Engine Problems: Throttling

I took a short break off from work recently, and noticed that when I drove, and stopped at lights, my car would throttle. If I moved the gear in Park, it stopped completely, but once I started to drive, it would throttle again. It's really annoying, and I did not have time to take it into a mechanic.

Could this be something minor, or expensive to fix? I hope to get it looked at sometime when I return from camp.

What do you mean by throttle? The rpm's would rise by itself?

Need more details, make/model/age of car?

2008 Toyota Yaris. It just seems to vibrate when I have it stopped (in Drive), or a am slowing down/speeding up. There is no problem when I have the car in park.

Could possibly have a broken engine or tranny mount.

I suffered some body damage Christmas Eve, when I hit a patch of ice on a Saskatchewan highway, bound for Winnipeg. However, it has not given me problems until recently. I wonder if when my car went into the ditch of snow, it could have caused the damage, as the alternator belt and coolant fluid had drained, and there was body damage to the front of the vehicle from the impact of the snow.

When I opened my hood after getting pulled out of the ditch, the hood was completely buried in snow. I wonder if the accident caused this to happen, or if it is just a coincidence.

Most likely an engine mount or vacuum leak. Also possible but less likely, an EGR or IAC issue.

If it's just a vibration issue, you could have a bunch of ice packed up in one of the engine mounts. Not sure what your weather has been like but it's not uncommon. look under the hood and if it looks like there's lots of snow packed around the bottom end take it to a car wash and try and melt it out.

If the RPM is hunting then it's obviously something else.
