Default Baseball in Calgary

When does baseball start around here? When I was playing little league , high school, and even college ball back home we were already playing games by now.

Really only asking bc I am extremely bored and looking for things to do to get me out of the house when it warms up. I have played ball my whole life it seems. I have been an assistant coach at the college and high school level for summer teams. I have also run a small hitting and fielding clinics business at different points in my life.

I would love to get on on a field some where and potentially offer my expertise. Anything beats sitting on a couch not being able to work.

Even in BC it is WAY too early for ball, and that is the best climate for the sport in Canada.

Late March, early April if you are lucky there, May 1st (or so) here.

When I played here, we were lucky to get a game played in April. May is the norm around here I believe.

Season will start on Saturday with the +15 weather.......

just a heads up Nicker, april, may and June are usually the worst weather months here in Calgary as we get a lost of moisture (rain/snow) thru this period - be prepared for a few rainouts, snowouts, cold outs.......

Back when I was playing minor ball, we'd have indoor training and practice in school gyms, soccer centers, etc. Usually started up at the beginning of April.

If you're serious about getting involved with some little league in Calgary, Dennis Baumgartner is probably still the guy to talk to. Happens to be the father of former Canuck Nolan Baumgartner. Dennis has been around as long as I can remember, and I owe a lot of my love of the game to him. I was fortunate enough to play 3 years for him in the early 2000s as well as a couple years of summer all-stars.

His contact info is still up on the Bow Ridge site, so I assume he's still involved in coaching. I'm sure it would be a great experience to coach along side him, or he may be able to at least point you in the right direction. If you do happen to get in touch with him, tell him 'Hero' says hello .

WTF? The weather here ... I was told to make it through the winter grind and the pay off a beautiful summer would be there. Summer is like 2 months... I mean yeah I get no Tornadoes here or 110 degree heat but I just want to be able to wear shorts and sandals in May and be comfortable. Im guessing that's not going to happen?

Some of us wear shorts and sandals come mid April regardless of the weather... We usually get 3 months of really nice weather, unfortunately it doesn't start until the end of June but it usually lasts until almost the end of September. I always like playing fall outdoor sports rather than spring sports here. The weather is usually a lot more consistent (until mid-late October, then it's snow)
