Huge trade. Allows the Tigers to move Cabrera to 1st and gets them out from under Fielder and his equally massive contract before his lack of physical conditioning catches up with him.
For the Rangers, it's definitely a power upgrade at 1B and allows them to bring Profar up to the bigs (2B). Kinsler always came across as a ######.

I'm not sure I like this trade. Fielder is an upgrade on 1st, but disappears when the pressure's on (then again he could fit right in with the Rangers).
Now my jersey is out dated... last winter Young was traded; this winter Kinsler
I'm sad.

The trade figures to have a pretty serious domino effect on the free agent market. The Tigers won't be bringing Omar Infante back to Detroit now that they've addressed their second base need with Kinsler. The Rangers, meanwhile, have first base taken care of and their pursuit of a reunion with Mike Napoli is likely through. If Texas is really ready to shake things up, they could theoretically move Jurickson Profar to make way for top free agent Robinson Cano.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post wonders if shedding Kinsler puts the Rangers in the market for Robinson Cano. Texas could trade Andrus or Profar and make a run at the lifetime Yankee. Sherman also points out that the move at least opens a window for Jhonny Peralta to return to the Tigers as a third baseman -- a situation that wasn't possible 48 hours ago.
Looks like the Tigers sent along $30m along with Fielder, which changes this deal a bit. Still may work out for both teams but not quite as big a steal as originally laid out.
Also, the head of the MLBPA Michael Weiner, the guy that took over after Fehr, has died today. From all accounts, a positive, easy going, very well liked labour lawyer; basically the exact opposite than Fehr was.
The Mets have signed OF Chris Young, who hit .200 last year with 12 homeruns. He is a career .235 hitter and the Mets gave him 7.25 million for one year. The Mets are apparently also very interested in Nelson Cruz.
A's sign Scott Kazmir to a two year 22 million dollar contract. That is the same contract they offered Hudson. This has to mean the end of Bartolo Colon in Oakland.
