Default Why was Team Canada so dominant in the men’s hockey tournament?

Thought this was an excellent article breaking down the 2014 Team Canada:

I find it interesting how the reactions and analysis almost did a complete 180 BA (Before Americans) to AA (After Americans)

Prior to the game against the US, that narrative was that the US was the best team in the tournament and the plucky Canadians were in tough with their pop gun offense.

Post Olympics the narrative is about where this team fits in history as one of the very best ever assembled.

By all accounts, aside from ironing out some very small wrinkles, not much changed between game 1 and the gold medal game in term of the Canadians play.

Canadians always seem to get down on their own teams and overrate the other teams in international hockey. The Americans (maybe because they are the "new kids on the block") seem to be by far the team we overrate the most. Remember how great they looked in this year's WJHC this year and how awful the Canadians were?

I think it is in part the humble nature of Canadians and in part how high of expectations from the teams that we have but it seems if Canada isn't winning 100-0 nothing people will find issues with the team and get overly concerned.
