Default How does Canada's 2014 men's hockey team compare with previous years?

Because we need a side conversation while the GDT is going...

How does Team Canada's men's hockey team compare with the previous years?

Some of my friends were saying the Gretzky/Lemeuix years were the best but im arguing they didnt have the depth as 2010 or 2014

Discuss!

The 2002 team was the best of all of them.

2002 had a pretty insane roster, including:
Brodeur / Joseph
Rob Blake / MacInnis / Niedermayer / Pronger
Iginla / Kariya / Lemieux / Sakic / Yzerman

It sure was. The forwards were amazing including the ones AC has posted. The 3rd and 4th liners had grit too with Peca, Fleury, and Nolan.

The play on their first goal in the Gold Medal Game, where Lemieux lets the puck pass between his legs to Kariya, stands as one of the most dazzling I have ever seen.

Gretzky, Lemieux, Messier, Coffey and Bourque was the power play.

Magical like losing to Sweden, barely beating Germany and tying the Czech's?

There was a game earlier in the tourney where Mario took a pass off his skate in full stride in the neutral zone that was just absurd. He was in full-on Maginificent One form for that whole tournament.

The 2006 team is the reason Team Canada has a rule that team selections are no longer to be done over hookers and blow in a 3rd rate motel room.

I don't know who the best is, but 2006 had to be the worst.

Draper
Redden
Bertuzzi
McCabe

Hindsight is 20-20... I agree that Draper was ridiculous (as does everyone) and Crosby should have had his spot, but Bertuzzi was a big physical PPG winger at the time, Redden was an all-star who reliably put up 40-50 points, and McCabe was having a career season that ended with 68 points... okay I still can't justify McCabe. OTOH, I can't really justify Chris Kunitz either.

I misread it and thought we were comparing Olympic teams. If its Team Canada iterations in general then yeah, its a no-brainer.

Well this is easily the best defensive hockey team we've ever fielded. 3 goals in 5 games? I hope they can keep it under 2 goals allowed Sunday so they can averaging less than a goal allowed a game.

This might be the best-coached team... I don't think I saw a red sweater out of position all game... ok, maybe that's a bit of a stretch, but it was a clinical performance today, for sure!

if we're not limiting it to Olympic teams, the 1976 Canada Cup team boasted 17 Hall of Famers. That deserves consideration.
