February 19 General Thread
Canada wins two silver medals on Day 12. On Day 13, Canada will likely win a medal in Women's Bobsleigh, with many important play-off matches on the go.
Rankings after Day 12: Rank / Medals / Rank Change
By Gold Medals: 8th / 4 / 0
By Total Medals: 5th / 17 / 0
Events of Note:
[10:15 PM] Ladies’ Parallel Giant Slalom Qualification: Three Canadians will compete in the Ladies’ PGS. Caroline Calve has had two Top 10s this year. Marianne Leeson and Ariane Lavigne will also compete.
[10:42 PM] Men’s Parallel Giant Slalom Qualification: Jasey Jay Anderson, now 38, returns to defend his Gold medal in this event. He is not expected to medal, but anything can happen with Jasey Jay.
[12 AM] Alpine Skiing – Men’s Giant Slalom Run 1 & 2: Three Canadians will be competing in the 109-man field. None are expected to come close to medalling.
[2:00 AM] Ladies’ / Men's Parallel Giant Slalom 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, Finals: Details to be posted after qualifications.
[2:15 AM, 3:05 AM] Cross-Country - Ladies’ and Men’s Team Sprint Classic Semi-Finals: Canadians will be competing in both events, with Alex Harvey & Devon Kershaw hoping to make up for a poor Olympics thus far in the Men’s events.
[3 AM] Curling – Women’s Semifinal: Canada went 9-0 in the Round Robin and will be playing Great Britain. Eve Muirhead’s Great Britain squad is ranked #1 in the world but have had a poor competition, so on paper, this semi-final is tougher than a potential final.
[6:30 AM] Speed Skating – Ladies’ 5000m: Ivanie Blondin is the sole Canadian in the long distance event.
[7:30 AM] Biathlon – 2x6km Women + 2x7.5km Men Mixed Relay: The Canadian team is not expected to compete here, but it is a fun event, with 16 teams competing.
[8 AM] Curling – Men’s Semifinal: Canada went 7-2 in the Round Robin and will face China in a re-match of the best match of the round robin. This match will be tight and hopefully as exciting as the Round Robin match was.
[8 AM] Figure Skating – Ladies’ Short Program: Canada has two competitors in the event, with Gabrielle Daleman (only 16) and Kaetlyn Osmond (18). Both young women are not expected to medal but have a bright future in the sport.
[9:15 AM, 10:25 AM] Bobsleigh – Women’s Heat 3 & 4: Humphries and Moyse sit 0.23s back after the first two runs and will surely do everything within their power to try to beat the American sled for Gold.
[10 AM] Ice Hockey – Men’s Quarterfinals: Canada will face Latvia, a surprise from the qualification round, winning their first match of the tournament. The winner of the Canada/Latvia game will move on to face the winner of USA/Czech Republic.

Yeah, only reason I hadn't posted it was because there is a separate thread for Hockey each day.

I think Matt Morrison crashed at the top in qualifying and still qualified first but I guess its still early.

There's also two runs, so still a bit of a ways to go.

MM came in 7th at the time he crossed, not first.
Red course looks much easier so far. MM was on the blue side, so hopefully he will do much better on the red side.

Ah, I must have missed that key piece of info haha. Promising though if he can crash and still put down a run like that.

Might have to back off that red side being way faster than the blue one. Sobolev just ripped the blue side apart with a sub 48 second run to sit first so far.

The last little montage of slow motion shots... absolutely amazing in HD. They've got some good cameras over there.

Yea, that was really unfortunate. The announcer was saying she was taking her run pretty conservative and then that happenbed..

Then it sort of happened again in the mens giant slalom. Weird.

This is much more entertaining when their going head to head with each other opposed to just time based.

They have only done one of two runs, and it's actually the 1/8 finals
