Police Investigating Winnipeg Minor Hockey Brawl

			Well, isn't this special...Link

		| Police are investigating after a hockey fight among 12-year-olds led to a fracas involving players, parents and referees, and continued off the ice at the Southdale Community Centre on Sunday.
In a YouTube video posted Sunday, parents can be heard screaming as referees work to break up a fight, with one referee going down to the ice with one of the young players. A man then leaves the team’s bench and jumps on the referee, and others come in to break up the battle.

“Hey! Hey! Get your hands off our kids!” a woman screams early in the profanity-laced video.

he YouTube video description says the game was played Sunday at Southdale and the boy who hit the ice went to hospital with a broken wrist, back sprain and bruised shoulder.

Police confirmed Monday morning that they’re investigating an incident that started near the end of a 90-minute game at the community centre on Sunday.

“Injuries sustained at the end of the game occurred when the referee came between two individuals and fell,” Const. Jason Michalyshen said at a news conference. A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital in stable condition, a police spokesman said, but police couldn’t confirm details of the boy’s injuries.

After the ref fell, players and a coach assaulted him, Michalyshen said.

The parents involved in that incident should be banned for life from hockey arenas.

Somewhat harsh, unfortunately stuff like this can happen at any event, I once saw worst at a friken dog show. one dog bit another, one parent kicked that dog and all hell broke loose.5 person brawl and 3 actually charged with assault.

Just think how those parents looked to the kids on the ice. Parents are supposed to be role models for good behaviour. I would suspect that all the swearing that went on in the stands wasn't appreciated by the kids either. It might be harsh but I think it's the appropriate response to ban them. Parents need to be shown that there are consequences for thier bad behaviour.

Don't we have an "on-going parents being dicks at kid's sporting events, because they're living their failed lives through their kids" thread?

Not saying your wrong but history says it won't happen Dion, parents have been brutal fans for many many years, any time you have kids playing a sport that has violence the parents will get violent when it gets rough against their kids...human nature.

The Town of Amherst is responding to complaints of unruly behavior and foul language directed at players and fans at last Saturday’s game between the Ramblers and the Bridgewater Lumberjacks by putting Amherst Stadium staff and security on notice: anyone caught using inappropriate langue is to be escorted out of the stadium immediately.

		| Rambler president Jim Henwood lauded the decision to strictly enforce the stadium’s code of conduct following the incidents at last Saturday’s game.
“This kind of behavior displayed by anyone attending a Rambler Game is disturbing and defies not only the code of conduct at the stadium but also common decency,” Henwood said.

I find it hard to believe the ref intentionally dragged the kid down. It looks like he was just trying to get inbetween the two kids and lost his balance, and unfortunately he brought the kid with him. Plus the kid in the white took a nice chop at the kid in blue, which started the whole thing. I saw this on the news this morning and the parents of the kid who got hurt (and started it with the slash) said the ref did it on purpose, BS for sure.
The parents involved in the fight, as well as the kids swinging sticks at the refs should all be banned.

What ever happened to adults if they were going to fight they'd take it out back away from the woman folk and kid folk?
My old man one of my uncles claimed to be going to restock the beer fridge once when I was a kid and they were gone for no more then 10 minutes and came back into the house without beer, with black eyes and acted as if nothing had happened.

Inside, outside doesn't really matter where they fight, it is still asinine to fight over a kids hockey game.

Even as someone who is pro-fighting in the NHL it's absolutely atrocious that they continually encourage, not just allow but encourage, this stuff in such low level leagues.
It's unfortunate that a 12 year old broke his wrist, but he fell because he's 12 years old and not strong on his skates and the ref needed to use some force to stop the fight. It was an accident that they hit the ice. The child simply shouldn't be going after players trying to throw punches. And then his piece of #### family wants to blame the ref, the same ref who was jumped and attacked with a hockey stick, while validating his son's behaviour.

It's absolutely a joke that this isn't, and hasn't been for years, an isolated incident. Let child services investigate the parents of the child who was throwing 2 handed swings and charge all the coaches and parents who so much as touched the ref with assault.

It's the same thing that happened in Kahanawake exactly 2 years ago. It's never been a secret that certain teams are especially violent and cheap. So much so that they have trouble getting refs, and when they do end up getting one he's assaulted.

I've actually been pleasantly surprised with Novice reffing for the most part. You can tell there are a few who just don't give a crap and do a half assed job.
