Flames recall Joni Ortio
No official announcement yet and not on the AHL page but:

Think it's pretty safe to say Ortio has been recalled, seeing as how he's on the ice here at the Saddledome. #Flames

Good for him, he definitely earned this.
Should be great experience for him. I worry about the Heat now, lol.

Give him the start tomorrow in Montreal. Can't do any worse than Berra anyways.

Good for Joni, wonder if he'll get a start before the Olympic break?

I have nothing against Berra. He is still a work in progress, but I think it would be a shame to interrupt Ortio's mojo on the Heat and not play him at least once to see what he can do. It's probably time to reward him as well.

Cool that he's up here, but bummer that Ramo is probably not able to go for a while. I would like him to get at least 1 game in since Berra isn't playing amazingly well right now.

I'm split on this. He definitely deserves it and has earned it. However our team is bad, current streak aside, and I really don't want to see him get shelled in a game where we decide to not show up.
It would have been ideal if he could have just remained on a solid AHL team for the rest of the year.

Officially announced

Neat. Looked great with the Heat and I thought ht looked much better than JoeyMac in the pre season games I saw. Was originally against Ortio coming up and potentially setting him back but with the Flames riding a 5 game win streak and morale pretty high this is a good time.

Nice. I'd expect him to play the 3 games on the road trip before being sent back down.

I'd actually like to see Ortio get all 3 games. Why not see what he has, at least it would be good for both him and the Flames for him to know what he'd have to deal with, and for the Flames to evaluate where he's at.

Berra is 27 years old, and has been exposed as a weak glove hand.
What you see is what you get at this point.

Awesome. Good for Ortio. He deserved it. Also love how Steinberg delivered the news, gave me a chuckle.

The flames just seem to have confidence playing in front of a Finn, let's see if that continues with ortio

Joni has played amazing the last 3 games for the Heat and is on a heck of a high right now. It would probably be good for the Flames to start him against Montreal because he is the hotter goalie right now, despite playing in a different league.

Effort hasn't been the problem all year long my friend. I can think of a handful of games where the Flames looked really bad, and most of them were on that streak where we couldn't score anything to save our lives. Try again and stop being so dang negative!

If anything, I think this is the perfect time for Ortio to play. The Flames have been on a hockey high since the Vancouver game. Also, the last few games have shown that the team has gotten used to playing with rotating goalies. I have no doubts that the Flames will show up with Ortio in net.
..and congrats to Ortio, definitely earned his ticket to the big show.
