According to Hartley, Flames have placed Shane O'Brien on waivers.
Interesting. $2 million for one more year. Does someone take him?

He definitely didn't bring the nastiness/grittiness that I thought he would when the Flames acquired him. Without that element to his game, he wasn't much use.

Seems a little odd. Are we expecting to play the rest of the season without an injury?

Can't see anyone taking him but hopefully someone stupid like MacT will bite.

Hasn't added much toughness at all and has been awful in his own zone. I didn't think he could have been worse than he was prior to coming here but with his new found idea that he is Bobby Orr he is even more scary to have on your team.

I wonder if this is a precursor to a trade for another d-man and they needed to clear the roster spot?

The worst defenceman on the team by a wide margin. Despite the fact he plays sheltered minutes he still manages to be a liability most games.

Don't think he had a shift after the third Nystrom goal last night. 5:37 total ice and -3.

Please get this piece of crap off our team. I disliked this signing even more than Bertuzzi (initially. Bert at least redeemed himself).

He played 5 minutes yesterday and was a -3. Russell's back, they can go with Giordano, Russell, Brodie, Wideman, Smid, and Butler and in case of an injury they do have Breen still.

If someone wants to take his almost 3 million left on his contract I think the Flames will be pretty happy. I doubt it though, maybe later after the Olympics nearing the deadline some team will want that veteran 7th defenseman.

Not a lot of defensive depth that is nhl ready in abby, he pretty much had it coming though, seemed unwilling to fight and play the physical game this year for some reason.

Flames really could use a couple young depth guys to bridge a year or two before ramage, wotherspoon, sieloff etc are ready.

As poor as SOB has played, Breen is worse.

He hasn't even been as mean as I think we were all lead to believe he would be.

His most notable moment so far has been breaking Ashton's nose after the cheapshot against Derek Smith in October.

So I assume the Smid injury is not serious? Or is Burke using scare tactics to get Sob to play better?

While I don't think this is a precursor for a trade or roster move, hopefully it's a sign that the Flames are nearing an extension with Russell.

With O'Brien they have 5 defenseman signed for next year. if O'Brien was gone, going into the off-season with only 4 defenseman might not be the best plan. With Russell signed though it's a non-issue.

So? He's only here in case of injuries and he's paid in peanuts compared to SOB. It's not like if a defenseman goes down the season is ruined. A warm body is all that is needed.

As an aside, IMNSHO Bert can never redeem himself.

Ha ha, he was directly responsible for giving away the puck leading to a goal last night.

Let that be lesson to the rest of you Players.
