Default Calgarypuck's Greatest Songs of All Time Workshop Thread

Gauging interest in compiling a list of the greatest songs as determined by Calgarypuck. Each interested poster would submit a list of a predetermined length ranking their greatest songs of all time which would be compiled into a comprehensive and irrefutable list complete with album art and youtube links. Maybe.

Things to consider...

1. How many are interested? Not very fun if there's only 5 of us. If you are interested thank the workshop post.

2. Genre specific? Do we eliminate certain genre's of music so that the list is only rock or are we all inclusive.

3. How obscure is too obscure?

4. Timeframe. I'm in no hurry, but people tend to lose interest without progress.

5. How many songs per list? How many songs on the final list?

6. Albums instead of or in addtion to songs?

Open to suggestions as well, if you have one post it. If you thank this post it means you are IN.

1. CP likes its music, I think this will be a good one.
2. I wuld prefer rock only unless you want to split it into sub categories.
3. Nothing is too obscure, if it is on your list it is on your list. Be honest though about the impact the song had as well as quality.
4. Is it done like a draft or just submit your list? If it is a submit your list/lists then you an put a hard date on it.
5. Maybe put at maximum instead of a set number you have to have, say 50?
6. Albums could be a whole new thread.

I'm in. I think doing rock only would be okay, but I have no problem with it being open to every genre. Doing an albums list on it's own would be a good idea as well.

So, songs first or albums first? Albums might be easier.

I'd vote songs...I'd also say genre specific is too difficult mostly because defining genres is too difficult.

I'll play.

I love so many songs - hard to narrow it down. Also, I like a lot of obscure stuff. Maybe that's the idea of a thread like this - to be turned on to something new. We all know the classic songs already.

I could list 50 songs I love - too much? I might limit it to one song per artist.

"Best" song by consensus might result in some lowest-common-denominator music.

I was thinking the same thing troutman. Surely, there would be more than 1 Led Zeppelin song in my top 100 of all time. But...if I limit it to my favorite of those and expand my list with other artists it might be more worthwhile.

I agree that the idea should be about being turned onto something new. At least in part.

We may still end up with a list that has Stairway to Heaven at the top, but hopefully it is broader than a countdown you might hear on classic rock radio over a long holiday weekend.
