Default Riga, Latvia

Anybody been to Riga? I'm going to be there for a week during the Olympics. Any tips, warnings, must-sees?

I loved Riga when I was there. I found it safe and friendly while I was there so typical common sense should do. One of the highlights of my stay there was a day trip to Cesis which had an amazing castle ruins. Gutmanis Cave in the Sigulda area (which has several castles as well) was pretty cool also. As for the city itself I only spent time around the old town which was beautiful!

I also enjoyed Riga. Can't think of many warnings - as was mentioned, everyone was very friendly, and I felt quite safe. As with any busy city, pickpockets are out there, but it may not be as bad as the warnings say.

We also just mostly did the old town, which is definitely a good start - not sure of much beyond that.
Tallinn, Estonia is also very nice if you're looking for another different spot to visit in the area.

I have heard nothing but good things about Latvia and the Baltic region in general. I had a friend who went there and loved it.

Just keep in mind that the economic crisis hit Latvia particularly hard and there are bound to be cosmetic signs of this in some places.

I hope you like beautiful women and beer gardens. Lots of great architecture to see. There is a great resort town nearby... Can't remember the name of it...just a short train ride. The friends I was with said the resort town had one of the nicest beaches they have seen in Europe... And they have been everywhere. Make sure to try some black balsam liquor.

Born and raised there, and also was back there at the end of August. Beautiful city, definitely hit up old town lots of things to do and see, lots of shopping. Overall very safe city, don't have to worry about pick pockets honestly. Check out Jurmala, Segulda as well, wish you could go in the summer when it's awesome out. I'll just be brief here, but if you have any other questions happy to answer them for you just pm me! Have a good one!
