Who's our next diamond in the rough?
Our next player that really surprises us, comes out of nowhere and dominates for the flames.
Recently we had Giordano come out of nowhere to become a top D, and this year I would say Russell came out of nowhere to do really well for us.
Who's next? Maybe a granlund or a gaudreau or a sieloff?
Maybe Colborne will suddenly take the next step and become a dominant center?

Knowing the answer would be contrary to the subject of the question.

our top end prospects do not qualify as diamonds in the rough. They are more like Dianonds to be potentially ruined.

I'll make a guess of one of Culkin or Kulak.
Then again I thought Negrin would be a top 4 defender on this team.
If Burke can swing a deal for Despres who's rumored to be on the block in Pittsburgh, I think he would immediately be a top 4 guy on this team.

Heh... he comes from my extended family's hometown in Sask. They still keep in touch. He's currently playing for Sheffield(?) in the UK.

Ferland... I hope his injury doesn't affect his development too much.

Very, very solid player. He is coming along nicely. He has an NHL shot and is responsible in every zone.

Not quite a diamond but Kris Russell was a nice find by Feaster that played above expectations until he got hurt.
Paul Byron has been good after being written off and chastised as the return for the Regehr trade.

Our second round pick from this next draft will be a first line forward or top pairing d-man

I will second the Ferland vote. I don't think anyone was all that excited about a 5th round fighter from the dub.

I wasn't kidding (if that's what you meant).
Not flashy, but a smart, solid player. And good size. His game translates to the NHL very well.
I strongly believe he is a full time NHLer next year.

I meant my Stefen Meyer comment haha. You're right about Knight though. He's just a solid person too. Real nice guy.
Doesn't hurt that his sister is an Team Canada Olympian for Women's Hockey. Nice pedigree.

there was a lot of negative sentiment towards Ortio, as recent as training camp. He's been a pleasant surprise for the first half of the season.
