Icon59 LA trades Ben Scrivens to Edmonton for 3rd round pick

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Sounds like Ben Scrivens has been traded from LA to EDM, 3rd round pick headed back to LA.

Scrivens having a great year behind the best defensive team in the league; how will he fare on the worst defensive team in the league?

With Quick and Jones, Scrivens was expendable

Scrivens has the league's third best save percentage. WTF LA.

alright, that's better from MacTavish. Doubt that'll solve anything though.

Scrivens is an Alberta boy. It's a good move for Edmonton.

Lets see what happens when he has to stop 3 times as many quality scoring chances per game.

Did you miss them trading out Dubnyk?

So, basically the Oilers trade Dubnyk and a 3rd for Scrivens and Hendricks. Hendricks is not worth a 3rd, and it's questionable as to whether Scrivens is actually a better goalie than Dubnyk. In addition, because they kept half of Dubnyk's salary, they're effectively taking on about half a million in cap.

If you just look at the Dubnyk trade, they've essentially added Hendricks for an AAV of 3.55 million, for a fourth liner. That... sucks.

With Reimer and the Carolina goalies available I don't know why you go this route, but whatever. I guess Hendricks is good in the shootout.

This is all good news, they get some grit and maybe a decent upgrade in goaltending, let them add in a solid defenceman and we, as in the FLames, will slide into second last and get Ekblad. I see my long term dreams are closer to coming true!

Scrivens played for Eakins for a while. Wonder if he lobbied for him.

As is being pointed out by a lot of people on twitter, Scrivens played for Eakins on the Marlies, UFA at the end of season too with only 51 NHL games under his belt.

Guess it is at least worth it for the Oilers because they knew what they had in Dubnyk.

Now they get to give Scrivens a half season tryout to see if he can replicate his success on a poor defensive team.

I see Scrivens/Dubnyk being on a similar level, although Scrivens has had a much better year. We'll have to see how he plays on a team with no defense though.

Not a terrible move by MacTavish.
