Default Rock Bottom

This is rock bottom. I hate it. It sucks. I love this team to death. I will be here until the end. We knew there would be times like these.

I will defend the flames (and explain loyalty) to Canucks fans while I live in Vancouver. I will never give up. I expect another rock bottom moment or 2.

BUT

I expect to become a champion. A Stanley cup champion. I expect to be a better team than than the oilers and Canucks ever were.

I expect that my team will never pull hair or dive. I expect they will never bite fingers and I expect the will never cheat to win.

I also expect that they will never lose on purpose. I will never cheer for a loss. I will never boo my team either. I might get frustrated, but I won't discredit their effort. But there better be effort.

Bottom line is: I will be here until the end!

As much as I hate to defend Oilers fans, there true fans have been "at rock bottom" for a while now.

As much as it sucks to cheer for a close to last place team its part of the process.
This was expected from the Flames and is far from "rock bottom" however, we should hopefully be able to turn this around quicker then the Oilers.

Awww, don't be too hard on him, he's just trying to cheer himself up.

I would agree though, I wouldn't start calling this rock bottom yet. Probably setting oneself up for more disappointment. It's only half a season in, some sucky days ahead of us yet.

Of course, the opposite is the Edmonton situation. They SHOULD be better by now. Maybe they are true fans for sticking around up there, but I think at this point they should be making more of a stink and voting with their wallets up there. But no true fan should be putting up with that.

This thread could have been a single post in the "Halfway Point" thread read as:

Quote:
At the halfway point this season, this team has hit rock bottom. It sucks as a fan.

Good on you, man. Great to see a true fan in a city full of ###tty fairweather ones.

We'll get there. And I look forward to the day that we're competing for a cup and the Canucks are where we were scraping the bottom BUT with all their fans nowhere to be found.

I get the point he's making with this post and I agree with everything he says... I don't want to be Vancouver and I don't want to be Edmonton because of the characters of their teams.

For years - win or lose - we have had the character in our team that we can be proud of... The most respected guy in the game as our captain and best player who played the game the way everyone should play it... An All Star goalie who would put the team on his back and never complained or whined to the media unlike the goalie to the west... No divers, whiners, biters, or hot shots.

Although we may not have won as much as the Canucks or been as young and exciting as the oilers in the eyes of the media... We could always throw it back at any Canucks fans that their team were whiners, divers, and cheaters... And throw it back at oilers fans that their players were show-offs who only know how to lose. And the best part is that oilers fans and Canuck fans know it's true.

I'm still proud of this team even if this isn't rock bottom and it gets worse... I'll be another die hard fan to the end. We have a great new captain and we are lucky to have young skilled guys of great character like baertschi and Monahan to begin building this team around... Kids that don't pull "bow-and-arrow" celebrations when they score a goal in a 4 - 1 game.

I hope the organization keeps preserving the character that this team had during the best years of iggy and kipper cause... No matter where Vancouver or Edmonton finished in standings... Their fans were always jealous of that even if they won't admit it.

A couple of great posts in here. I would have to agree that we aren't quite at rock bottom yet. It will likely get even worse.

I watch every game I can, I read this forum and others on a daily basis. I read what players are saying, hockey ops and the media. We never really get any praise. No matter how the team does or how our rebuild is going. No props to players like Byron who are playing well despite the oaf his career has taken. Those kinds of individual success new to be celebrated because I don't think much else can be celebrated this season and probably next.

Edmonton gets the most ridiculous coverage about how terrible they are and the stupid things their GM does and says.

The Canucks fans I know still think their team can win the cup each hear. When reality is they will not win or get to the up final again until they have a new core or start a rebuild.

I can 100% agree that I never want what Edmonton and Vancouver have. We seem to be on the right road and we have put some good characters in place help this team progress even during this dark time.

Let the kids play and learn together with some great leaders setting the examples. Ie Gio, Hudler and Cammy.

It's rock bottom when dying4acup says it is.

LOL

I don't care if they never win again as long as the team is fun to watch. Bottom schmottom.

This isn't rock bottom. Next year is going to be worse.

We're being carried by our experienced players, who are almost all going to be traded at the deadline.

Next year will be pretty close to it when people's expectations are crushed with the lack of quality prospects in Abby who graduate to the NHL.

Doubt Burke is stupid enough to run next year's team without veteran/experienced players. We will trade some at the deadline, but we will acquire others. We're not going to go the Oilers route of building a losing culture with no leadership because all of the vets were dumped.
