Surprised with the Vlasic turnout so far, thought he would be favoured a bit higher than that.

These were exactly my picks as well; Gio is a homer pick but the other seven are the best players available. Leaving subban off a team like this would be a huge mistake IMO; he isn't nearly the wild card the media Makes him out to be.

I dread Bouw on this team. I will admit I have not seen him a lot in St. Louis but his past and especially his time in Calgary has clearly shown when the pressure is high his game gets much worse. Given his track record there is no way I could vote for him. I am sure he makes the team but it really concerns me how bad he plays when the pressure was on.

The top 6 seems pretty logical,
Doughty - Weber
Keith - Seabrook
Bouwmeester - Petriangelo
The next best player is Subban
The 8th choice is a complete toss up.
Dan Boyle brings experience
Letang brings good skating and an offensive touch
Vlasic brings a great stay-at-home element
Gio has been incredible this season and can bring a well-rounded game

I believe in the Pony Power
|
I think Gio is the perfect 8 because of his versatility. If an injury happens he can step in most roles

Ok, who are the posters who don't have Doughty and/or Keith on their team?

31 of us, so far, are homers, eh? Still, Gio in 2014!

I just can't bring myself to pick subban for a short international tournament against the world's best. Too unreliable, would rather take stone cold defenders like Vlasic and let Canada's overwhelming forwards provide the overwhelming offense.

He has 33 points and he's plus 13. Subban is a two-way defender. Mike Green is pure offense. Subban is a Norris winner. Take him.

AltaGuy has a magnetic personality and exudes positive energy, which is infectious to those around him. He has an unparalleled ability to communicate with people, whether he is speaking to a room of three or an arena of 30,000.

Seems like Vlasic is likely a lock now. I'm not a big advanced stat guy, but there are some crazy stats about how good he has been this year that I am sure TC is aware of.

I get the reasons, he is right on the bubble for me.
So far I view it like the discussions about byfuglien or yandle for team usa. In a short tournament against the best in the world, is subban reliable enough? Have lots of defenders with similar offense and skating and I'm not sure if what he brings displaces those other guys.
