I'd like to think they told Grandlund that he wouldn't get an opportunity to play but that they wanted him to observe and learn while watching. It would be pretty motivating for any of those guys down in Abby to hear about it from Grandlund when he gets back there too....and he earned some good cash taking notes. It also says to a guy that he is still important to the organization. That's my take on it anyways and I hope he uses it to inspire his play in the next coming months.

When you're scoring an average of 0.3 goals per game over your last three, you'd think that inserting guys that can score into the lineup would make some sort of sense. But what do I know.

I wonder if that call up was in part to give a wakeup/toughen up call to Backlund.
Remember the day he came up and talk was he was going to replace Backlund that night because Backlund was suddenly nursing some ailment that day. Hartley had some ambiguous words about his situation, and Backlund ended up playing.

No. Just no.

For a team looking for offence, this move is really baffling to me. I'm not saying he was the answer, but he could of been a spark and we need to have a look at him anyways- no offence to Westgarth but I would of rather seen Grandlund play yesterday at the Dome. One goal in 3 games is not only unacceptable but is a joke- let's play some talent and cultivate them as well.
It was nice for the Flames to reward Granlund for his solid 1st stretch in the North American professional level. I doubt he is NHL ready, but he is closer than most everyone thought he would be. I bet practicing with the Flames did him some good too, and lets him know he is on the cusp of playing his first NHL game.
There will be injuries. There will be trades. Tough to get upset at him being sent back down without playing a game since we all knew what the reasons were for having someone from the Heat called up. Just a good job by the Flames to waive a carrot in front of one of the more talented prospects who has been making a huge push since day one of the prospects' camp, and it shows the rest of the organization that if you are pushing, you will get a call-up.
