Tim Gleason has not yet been asked to waive his NTC to go to TOR but expectation is he will waive to go to TOR if/when asked.

I was going to say it was terrible for the Canes but on second thought it might not be. Gleason has become a bottom pairing defenseman even with Pitkanen out. Liles is owed a little over a million dollars less than Gleason. Save a million, grab a sort of prospect at the expense of a 6th defenseman. Unless Gleason bounces back it's not a huge deal.

Gleason must have been too tough for Carolina. They've had four fights all year. They traded Westgarth and now Gleason.. anti Brian Burke team.

Two horribly overpaid 30+ defensemen, both with 2 more years left on their deals.

Guess the respective GM's are hoping a change of scenery will do the guy they acquired some good.

Liles is slightly less on the cap hit but drops in last year of deal in real dollars which likely means more to a internal cap team like Carolina.

It doesn't save them much but in 2015 the difference in salary is 750,000 and 250,000 for the next two years.

If you don't think much difference between 2 defensemen then that extra money and the C level prospect may be enough to get you to do the deal.

No surprise, there's probably been more talk on the networks about JM Liles and his contract than the Flames this year.

Gleason is a pretty good player when healthy. I see this as a big win for the leafs.
