Boy that's a costly blow and they will surely be in the market for a defenseman. Not sure if the Flames have one on their roster that they would consider though. Butler is a possibility I guess with him becoming UFA at the end of the season and I don't think any team will be interested in SOB.

The Flames with their d-men injuries right now would be hard-pressed to deal from that position, I'd say. Maybe as the deadline approaches, a team like Boston could be interested in an SOB or Butler.

Big loss for Boston, though.

See, now if Russell isn't in Burke's long term plans (I hope he is) then this might have been a great opportunity to really maximize the return for him. Russell has really played well this season, and his smallish stature likely wouldn't be much of a detriment in Boston with massive D-men like Chara, Hamilton, Boychuk, and McQuaid.

This also doesn't help Iggy's quest for the Cup, so brutal all around really.

Hard to see a d-man outside of Gio or Brodie fitting what the Bruins need.

No way they want SOB and Russell and Butler aren't better than the options they already have.

I think they give up a 4th round pick for a guy to play on their bottom pairing or go big for a stud guy. In both cases probably not something the Flames would be apart of.

Don't they have Bartowski, Hamilton and Krug jockeying in and out right now? I would think the Bruins have the depth to move forward without making a ######ed trade for Chris Butler.

Giordano.

Chara and Hamilton were both sidelined today when they played against Ottawa. I think both are only out short term though (I am not sure about Chara's injury). But today, the B's played both Trotman and Warsofsky. I think they'll want to avoid doing that for too long.

You're probably right though, I doubt the Bruins have any interest in Butler or SOB. There are a lot of depth dmen out there that could be had for cheap if that's what they're looking for and once Hamilton and Chara come back, they don't really need a top 4 dman to replace Seidenberg.

Massive blow to Boston. Very underrated player who plays tonnes of hard minutes. Not easy to replace a guy like that.

I think Hamilton and Krug would otherwise count as mainstays, but Hamilton has been hurt I think for much of the season (half).

Bartowski, Miller and Warsofsky are all good step in players. I dont think the likes of a Butler or SOB would be all that much of an upgrade.

He's had an average season thus far, and is currently out with a concussion.

Add to that the fact that Baertschi could turn into a similar type of player, and we still currently have Cammy and Hudler, then there's no reason to dump our top defenceman for Loui and a pick in the 25-30 range.

Thats true, i never thought of the fact that Boston wouldnt have a very high pick. Cammy will probably be traded though at the deadline or end of season and will need someone to replace him.

Boston wont be moving Erikkson anytime soon, he was the main piece in the Seguin deal. Reilly Smith has looked great for them though.

The hope should be that baertschi replaces cammalleri after the trade deadline. If he can get on a roll in abbotsford, he should earn that call up. He excelled when givenore trust and ice time last year after the trade deadline and players like glencross and tanguay went down with injury.
