I guess it's a good thing to have an injury plagued season when expectations are low compared to a season of high expectations. Also gives other players in a rebuilding season a chance to show what they can do. Sucks but not the end of the world.

With the news of Russell being out long term..it would seem to be the perfect opportunity to get a look at what Chad Billins can do at the NHL level over an extended period of time.

So, Glencross is done until after the Olympics, and Russell might be back just before the Olympic break.

Bummer about Russell. Hopefully it's only the 4 weeks.

our IR insurance rates must be through the roof.
these injuries suck. and for the players like russell, they likely want to get the new contracts done or showcase themselves if not. can't showcase from the pressbox.
calling abbotsford!

Depending on whether it's 4 or 6 weeks, it certainly might. Six weeks from today is February 3, and they have a 3 game road trip before the Olympic break. Then, they have 3 more games after the break before the trade deadline.
If he comes back and takes a few games to get up to speed, it might hurt his trade value.

Hope this doesn't hurt Russell like Derek Smith's injury ruined him.
Tough break for the kid, he was probably in line for a decent 2 or 3 year contract. This might only make him attractive for another 1 year "show me" contract.

I'm wondering why Russell isn't in LTIR.
Is it because putting him on LTIR (along with glencross) would put them under the floor?

No, LTIR still counts against the cap. It just allows you to exceed the cap during the injury.
