Default Retail camera security system for Cigar Shop

I'm opening up a Cigar and Cigarette shop south Calgary mid Jan 2014 and was wondering if anyone could recommend where to get a camera security system from/installed. I'd want 4 cameras, monitor, dvr, something I can watch on my iphone etc. I found this add on kijiji but was wondering if anyone knew another company so I have something to compare it too..

INT: CIGAR SHOP. DAY

A NOTE on the counter next to a small pile of money reads:

PLEASE LEAVE MONEY ON THE COUNTER. TAKE CHANGE WHEN
APPLICABLE. BE HONEST.

You're cigars are no doubt fakes I'm afraid. Please send them to me for proper disposal.

Are you the shop opening up on 4th street there?

I bought a Q-see system from Costco. Pretty cheap, and super easy to install yourself. I can watch from any browser or from any of my mobile devices

C'mon dude. It's not like he came in and said "Hey CP, I'm opening up a cigar shop called "Cheap Smokes" located in Avenida and www.cheapsmokescanada.com and I'm looking for a camera."

He only responded with his shop name after being specifically asked and frankly I was curious where he was opening up a shop.

You're so cynical.

Ok you caught us, pritz97 is a buddy of mine and we came up with an elaborate ruse to pull one over on CP. He'd posted a thread asking about equipment for his store, and then I pipped in as a "3rd party" asking about one of his competitors just so he could post a link to his store.

And we would have gotten away with it to if not for you meddling kids!

Man what a tough board lol, in all seriousness I was/am looking for a system.
Thanks to totti 07 I'm going to buy a system and will have someone install it.

He saved me some money with the Costco idea.
Looking for someone to install security camera system - retail on Kijiji http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAd?AdId=557804136

When I do open I won't be as subtle lol.

Thanks for all the replies. If curious I'll be open Jan 20th.

I love Cigars and my tax season kicks off shortly after the 20th so give out some details and I'll see if I can be there.

Oh, but I know nothing of nor can I help in any way regarding cameras or security of any kind.

I've installed basic security monitoring systems before. Nothing elaborate but would do the trick. If I lived in Calgary I'd offer a hand if you didn't need/want a professional.

If you want to fly me out I'd certainly do it for free

That said, I'm not familiar with the particular Costco system, but in terms of doing it yourself the things you want to cover are:

1. Cash register
2. Entrance
3. Expensive Items
4. As much of the floor space as possible.

Depending on your staff, one in the back room as well.

In terms of running cable, it sounds like the most daunting, but if it's drop ceiling go to the Source, get a monster truck (not just any remote car but a monster truck) and then tie the cable to the truck and use the truck to run the cable where you need it to go.

The rest is likely plug and play.

If you have any questions, I'll try and answer them. Feel free to send me a PM.

What a good idea.

I've got an RC monster truck you can use for the bargain price of one Cohiba.

Hi Locke, here is my shameless plug since you asked...I am officially open for business, we're located at 123, 12100 MacLeod Trail S.E just past Anderson

Speaking of which, are we allowed to start a a thread somwhere on this site, promoting or letting people know about a new business?

thanks in advance

And put up a sign saying that there are cameras on the premises.

That's why it's called loss prevention not loss apprehension. You're doing this to stop criminals from even trying to steal, not trying to i.d. them after the fact.
