Reminder about electronics sales
**UPDATE- as of December 3- there will ne no more scalping of electronics (or other items) allowed. ***
Just a reminder to everybody that we do allow electronics to be sold higher than retail price. There have been a few threads for consoles as well as phones that were higher than retail price. If you think the price is too high, send the seller a PM. Otherwise, please leave the thread alone.
Going forward, we will be stickly enforcing the rules about critical posts.
If you see a post you believe to be breaking the rules, please report it.

Not sure this is the correct place to ask but what do the moderators see as the difference between scalping electronics and scalping tickets that makes one permissable and one not. It seems inconsistant.
Especially since the recent developments of scalping being made legal in alberta and the flames endorsing scalping via their website.

Yeah, really not a fan. I said my piece in the gear grinding thread, but certainly not the type of thing you like to see allowed in a so called community. I would hope the mods would re-discuss this at some point at least.

Part of the reason I left this thread open was for you guys to have a say. Looking at the posts; and the respective "Thanks"- we are discussing making a few changes.
I'm going to add a poll; just to get some more feedback.

Since my consumer scalping days are gone I say no! We can`t have people showing Badgers Nose that he is severely under pricing his electronics and cause him to increase his rates!

I really like the policy we had on tickets here. It's been a great way to not only pick up tickets to games and concerts without getting ripped off, but to meet people and strengthen the community.
Things like Stubhub and such are always out there if people are looking for profit. If they come here, then it's possible they are just looking for a quick sell or a nice gesture.
As for electronics, I don't think you can have the policy one way for one thing, and another way for another.
To be honest I don't mind a little markup on things that are hard to get. It's the way of the world, people will pay more to have first, or better access. And in good nature, I think everyone understands that. But it does become a problem when it goes overboard. You lose that community.
Unfortunately, you probably need a strong rule one way or another otherwise the line will always constantly be pushed.
I'd be fine with a markup limit like 10-20% or something reasonable. And I'd also be fine with barter/thanks gestures. I usually offer to buy a person a beer when we meet or bring some over when I get a hard to find ticket. Just my way of saying thanks, cause I know they COULD go to Stubhub or something.
But if a hard rule is needed, cause the community can't police itself, I think we should just keep it all at face value or lower, like the tickets were in the past.
As above, I would suggest that whatever the rule is though, it makes sense if it's the same for everything.

I sort of want to vote Yes, only because I enjoy watching the scalper get smacked around and shamed by a big lineup of angry CP members...

I'd say allow people to charge above retail, but allow others to point it out when someone's asking for too much.

Don't these two sentences contradict each other? I'm confused.
And in the other sticky it says we can't post for higher than MSRP.
So which is it?

I'm pretty sure ken just left the OP intact and then added the bolded update part just above.

Still makes the entire post confusing. What if you're new to the site, and it's your first time reading it?
