Gaudreau excited to be part of the Flames
http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...medium=twitter
Quote:
He just hasn’t signed yet, is all.
So don’t necessarily go thinking Gaudreau’s planning on waiting it out in order to run out as a free agent, scurry off in the dead of night carrying donations to the collection plate or the parson’s daughter.
“Yeah, I definitely hear about it. A lot,” he laughs. “My mom, who doesn’t know too much about the business side of hockey, is always talking about that, reading stuff on the Internet. Me? I’m just excited to be a part of Calgary.
“Just seeing how they’re rebuilding, those younger guys stepping into the lineup makes me feel more comfortable knowing that maybe I’ll get a shot up there and I can prove myself capable of playing. It’s cool to see how much the coaching staff uses the young guys, Monahan, Baertschi, and how they’re trying to reload and rebuild their organization.
“For next year? I’m kinda just playing it by ear. I’m not really sure what to think right now. I’m just concentrating on finishing up this one and then we’ll see what happens.”

Shout out to Mrs. Gaudreau reading all our posts..

When asked if, despite the lack of a signed legal document, he feels like a Flame, the kid doesn’t hesitate in answering.
“Definitely. Technically, I’m not signed. But they treat me really, really well. They always show a lot of interest. Make me feel at home, like I belong. I get along great with the GM, Jay Feaster, and John Weisbrod, his assistant. So, yeah, I feel like a part of the organization already.”

If that doesn't alleviate people's concerns about him signing here, nothing will.

Read between the lines. He wants to be traded to the Oilers. He wants to play with the best up-and-coming young talent.

Another story about Johnny getting the chance to play with his brother this year: http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...674/story.html
Matt is looking forward to playing as his brother on the XBox next year:
Quote:
“It’s gonna be weird, next year if he goes (pro),” concedes the soon-to-be 19-year-old freshman forward enrolled in arts and sciences. “Weird. There’ll be me playing Xbox and like ‘Wow! There’s my brother! Right there!’
“I mean, now we play the game together.
“Next year, he might actually be IN the game. How weird is that?”
|
Seems like they're treating this as his final year in College.

Still have to wonder why he hasn't signed a contract. Especially considering all the good things he says about the Flames organization.

He can't sign a contract until he leaves college. Once he signs, he loses his NCAA eligibility.

Nothing to back it up but I really think he signs when his college season is over this coming spring.
In fact, I think we will have at least 4 college guys sign pro contracts this spring. Agostino, Arnold, Gillies and Gaudreau.

I have this funny feeling that if he signs a pro contract he can't play college hockey. Maybe somebody can verify that for me.

Yeah but there was 3 feet of snow piled up in front of my office this morning. Clearly Gaudreau is considering all his options

My guess? He wants to play with his brother, and get a third year of college under his belt while at it. It'd be different if he was Monahan's size, but I think he realizes he needs to get stronger in order to really increase his chances of sticking at the NHL level. For a player of his size and stature, I don't think it hurts to do another year in college.
Besides, I'm guessing it's not the worst thing to be a star athlete at a sports crazed college and being the talk of the town. I'm sure he gets his fair share of hot college girls.
