Not a good start for Eugenie Bouchard who got a wildcard entry into the WTA Auckland.

Lost in straight sets to Vesina.

This didn't help.

I've done that before. Also whacked myself in the nose a couple weeks ago trying to put too much spin on my forehand. I screwed up the shot and made my eyes water.

Anyone from Vancouver going to Davis Cup? I'm going and with the prospects of none of the big guys from Spain coming, Canada might be able to make this series interesting.

GO MILOS!!

Milos just lost his first match of the season to some guy whose name ends in -ov

I watched most of it. His return game is just awful, can't even get to 30 on the return. And if his serve isn't working he'll lose to anybody.

And that's 250 points down the drain as his win in Chennai last year comes off the board.

Not good.

That was brutal to watch. I saw most of the match and I echo your sentiments.

Dancevic falls in three sets. I don't think he's going to be named to the Davis Cup roster either.

He blew a match point serving at 5-3! That's two GS qualies in a row where he loses first round after wasting match points. Really time to start asking himself how much longer he wants to do this. Once or even twice fine - it happens. But this has been a pattern in Frank's career and it cant be getting any easier

Hewitt just beat Raonic at the AAMI Classic in three sets. Early season rust? I haven't seen the stats from the game so I can't totally judge this play.

not too worried about this one, it's just an exhibition tournament and Hewitt the hometown guy probably just played better.

finding it hard to get genuinely excited for Canadian talent at these things when there's basically almost no chance that someone not named Novak takes home the big cheque. this year one of them (i.e. you, Milos) needs to get into the quarters at least before I start believing again.

honestly I'm thinking there's a real chance we see a Djoker calendar slam. especially with a broken Rafa who might be too rusty to defend his FO.

I think Murray will definitely give him a run for his money. I thought Djokovic and Murray will dominate the circuit this season, definitely.

Yup, it looks that way. I was just able to catch some highlights of it and Hewitt was pumped. I'm surprised they both didn't get heatstroke though. Crazy weather!

Baby steps! I'm just happy there are 7 Canadian men in the top 250. A few years ago, there was maybe Dancevic and that was it.

Meanwhile, Jesse Levine has qualified for and made it to the Quarterfinals of the ATP Auckland 250! Winning 5 matches in a row!

http://www.heinekenopen.co.nz/media/uploads/mds_9th.pdf

He faces Sam Querrey next, that's certainly winnable!

I'll give the Canadian women this much, some of them aren't too bad at all to look at. fair or not, that's proven to be a real important part of success on the WTA tour, as the Russian contingent has proven over the past decade.

And we're missing one. Heidi El Tabakh (who qualified for Roland Garros last year) withdrew due to an abdomen injury.

There are also 7 Canadian women in the top 250.
