Default Yellowstone and Taylor Sheridan

I couldn't find a Yellowstone specific thread, at least when I did a forum search. Somebody directed me to this subform (food and entertainment). I do see there was an 1883 thread (amazing show.)

This is a bit late considering Yellowstone is done this year, but there will be spinoffs from that show, supposedly.
Since there are about six Taylor Sheridan shows going in progress or coming up (Mayor of Kingstown, Lioness, Tulsa King, 1883, 1923, Landman, Bass Reeves etc.) thought a thread to discuss them all would be in order if there are other fans out there. Despite what you hear about the guy, I find Sheridan's shows entertaining as hell and great for quotes (i.e. Rip).

Despite being skeptical about some of them (i.e. Sly Stone in Tulsa King), 90% of them I enjoy. Tulsa King is a fun watch it turns out and Stone is excellent.

I cannot understand how Kevin Costner won't be in the second half of season 5 (November start date). When the first half of season five ended he was alive. How is the most important character in the show just gone? Rumour has it Rip/Beth etc. will carry the new spin-off, which is fine.. but how do you kill off a major character between season break?

Costner hates Sheridan and walked off, didnt really leave them with any choice

I have a sort of love/hate relationship with Sheridan projects.

I really enjoyed Yellowstone, but it kind of wore off after a bit and I find that common of Sheridan projects, they tend to start strong and then fade.

Costner also I think really realy horny to do his new film/passion project Horizon, would only give up for Sheridan's arm, leg, and left eye ball. So here we are.
I'm pretty sure when Costner signed on to Yellowstone it was conceived as a limited series, not a regular one.

I like his shows and his movies. I am looking forward to S2 of 1923. Working my way through Mayor of Kingstown now and going to give Tulsa King a try next I think.

I have such a strange fascination with Sheridan's politics.

Yeah, and it took some weird tangents, especially during the 6666 season. I felt like I was watching an infomercial for his steaks and fancy, dancing horses for a while.

The two spin offs have been the better shows for sure.

I agree Yellowstone faded a lot in season 4 (I think?), when it was all about offshoot projects (1883, 6666 show) and featuring all Sheridan's rodeo buddies and all the horse reining. Plus all the romances in the bunkhouse got a bit much- the barrel racer characters added nothing to the show and weren't overly likable. I don't have a problem with the show ending- you can only tell that story so many times. Writing Costner out without killing him onscreen will be odd.

The other strange thing is how much he recycles his actors. James Jordan is pretty much in every Sheridan TV show and movie.

1883-- Excellent show- one and done season. Really good.

1923- A few annoying characters but I really enjoyed it as well. The residential school (not sure if that's what they called them in the US) was heartbreaking. Hopefully season 2 is as good.

Lioness- I was most skeptical about this one, but turned out to be one of my favourites. Zoe Saldana was good, and so were the special ops team. Will see if season two is as good.

Tulsa King- Again, I was skeptical initially. Stallone was perfect and the show was quite funny as well. Looking forward to season 2.

Mayor of Kingstown- Loved season 1. Season 2 faded for me just a bit. Season 3 is ok so far.

Then there's the other spinoffs coming: Landman (Billy bob thornton), 6666 (Yellowstone spinoff in Texas), 1923 season 2?, other Yellowstone spinoffs supposedly (1944 and 2024- probably featuring Rip, Beth etc.).

Yeah, same. I really enjoy them for a bit but it wears off. Big-time Sons of Anarchy vibes where it's not really good, per se, but just really fun. Until it isn't.

Sicario, Hell or High Water and Wind River are amazing. Near perfect movies.

I haven't watch any of his TV stuff except the first season of Mayor of Kingstown, which was alright.

Big fan of his movies. But I found Those Who Wish Me Dead a swing and a miss.

I'm experiencing the same thing with Mayor of Kingstown. I thought S1 was really good...theres even some great stuff in S2.

I cant even be bothered to start S3.

Yellowstone? I cant even tell you where I stopped and I never watched any of the spinoffs.

I did watch Tulsa King and enjoyed that well enough, but its only been 1 season and, frankly, Sly sells lots of it.

I wont argue his movies though. Sicario and Hell or High Water were both absolutely excellent.

Give some of the spinoffs a go, Locke. 1883 at least was very good. I think that's exactly what they should be doing, limited series instead of fizzling out

Sam Elliot agrees too.

Quote:
While he had nothing but praise for “1883,” he didn’t hold back his thoughts on “Yellowstone.”

“I’m not a ‘Yellowstone’ fan. I don’t watch ‘Yellowstone,’” Elliott told Marc Maron on the “WTF” podcast. “I love (Kevin) Costner. There’s a lot of good people on the cast, a few of them I’ve worked with before. Nothing against any of them, but it’s just too much like f---ing ‘Dallas’ or something, for me.”

I wish I could quit shows like Locke. I seem incapable of not hate watching the end of a show I used to like but that's obviously well past its prime.

Biggest problem with 1883 is the insipid narration that manages to droll on eternally and say nothing at all. It's just cliches and moaning. And it adds nothing to the show.

Yellowstone Season 5 part II starts sunday. Looking forward to how it ends, though I can't imagine how they will have killed John Dutton offscreen and they just pick up from there.

Despite the way they wrote off Costner's character in Sunday's new episode, still hit me in the feels to see Kayce and Beth's reaction in the season 5B premiere. The best days of Yellowstone are gone, it's just who survives and who doesn't at this point.

Did he have to go back to his Home Planet like Poochy?
