I regret every trade I have ever made regarding TJ Oshie, and there were a bunch.

Good thread idea.
I'm not sure I have any regrets yet as I've only been in a year. Will have to let more time elapse, I'm sure it'll happen. I miss Bogosian right now, but it wasn't a bad trade, and I knew I was giving up future for the now at the time.
Ouch on the Karlsson one JH...

I have a number of regretful moves. I know its not a trade, but a few years back I accidentally put Matt Moulson on waivers. I can't remember the scenario, but I screwed up and he ended up on waivers and Simmer claimed him. That sucked.
I also had Tyler Myers who I drafted in the first round and was pretty damn happy....so happy that I traded him for a pittance . Thankfully I can't remember the details, but it was grim.

I believe in the Pony Power
|
is how it breaks down:
To the Wild:
Paul Martin
Luke Schenn
Cory Stillman
Tor 1st 09
Cap
To the Ducks:
Duncan Keith
Erik Karlsson
Alex Radulov
A mid to high 2nd 09
That's the full Karlsson deal...not one but two future Norris winners! Dear god

I remember before the WJC I had the opportunity to choose between dealing TT laterally for Gudbranson, or Trouba. Of course, I picked Gudbranson and now Trouba is widely considered one of the best prospects in the world and has looked like a stud in the NHL.
I also dealt Saad as an adder with a few other players for Marchand, before Saads breakout season.
Im sure there's a few others that I just can't remember.

I also just remembered my Filatov pick at #4 in the draft ahead of Pietrangelo who I was debating. On a totally other topic, I have no idea why the Preds are in shambles at this point.

I can't remember a really terrible trade that I have made but it sure sucked being the GM of the Flames not being able to turn them around. A couple of highlights for me:
1. Taking DiPietro with my first pick, 2nd overall, in the expansion draft a few years back. That move alone gave me a chance to be competitive right from the start.
2. Flipping DiPietro for Nabokov.
3. Traded what turned about to be Victor Hedman for Spezza. Hedman, while a good dman, hasn't turned into the stud that most people thought he would be.
I should add that I have probably made a lot of deals that look bad, any trade with pick or multiple picks because honestly, as a GM who has been around with several teams I can honestly say I have traded away more picks than what I have made in like 10 years or so of being a GM.

in my one and a half years here, there's really only one trade I regret ... but that one really stunk:
To NJ:
Dustin Byfuglien
Cam Fowler
Bryan Bickell
Mark Letestu
Henrik Samuelsson
5th round pick
To TOR:
Ryan Johansen
Paul Gaustad
Mattias Ohlund
Freddie Hamilton
4th round pick
absolutely embarrassing, just horrible. Looking at it today, I'd love to blame alcohol or other substances, but I guess I just went full Lowe on this one. Never go full Lowe.

Cheese is going to love this one, I waited a couple days because I didn't want to derail the thread till after some trades were mentioned. The trade I most regret is not actually a trade but a mindset
I traded away 1st line players for high end prospects in the ECHL. The trades are not bad, I even think I did quite well on a couple of them but the reality has been then Carolina Hurricanes have been poor hockey team for a long while. Sure we have a lot of great names in the ECHL and ok guys filtering in the AHL but neither league has games.
The CPHL Hurricanes have taken a huge hit because of this mindset. I tried to build an origination that had a wealth of depth in it's foundation league that would feed my pro team with low salary hits. The reality is, the players climbed the pay scale faster then I could capitalize on farming them and in the end I just lost a whole lot of games for nothing.
A few years ago Cheese took me under his wing and gave me the blueprint on how to win. I took on high priced overrated talent like 8M Hall Gill and a maxed out cap team and rode that deep in the playoffs. after the success of that season I believed I needed to rebuild and focused my energy on the ECHL and I've sucked ever since then.
My trade I regret is I should have never moved my 1st line players for guys I knew would be my 1st line 3-4 years later. Why loose for 3-4 years
