I have a question for you guys, for those of you who have seen "The Boondock Saints" why does Il Duce change, I've heard that he's there father but than why did he shot at them in the firefight? wouldn't he recognize his own sons?

I figured it was because he was really religious, as were they and so he realized their mission was "Godly" and therefore joined in the fight with them. I never really considered the idea that he could be there father, but i guess my theory could be wrong as well.

Perhaps this will be answered when the sequel comes out?

It is possible that he didnt realize he was their father until after the gunfight?

well on imdb they say that the director Duffy said that he was their father and that's fine and all but how did he still shoot at his son's, and even if he finally noticed this when he walked in on his son's praying why weren't they all rejoicing in the fact that they finally met there father instead of leaving and killing others?

I don't know, that whole father thing has me perplexed, but great movie and I can't wait till the sequel comes out later this year.

I'm guessing:
He was an absent type father, and has been in and out of prison constantly.
He did not recognize them when shooting, as he has not seen them for many many years.
He does not shoot them when they are praying, as they were saying the FAMILY prayer, and as such, he then knew they were related.

i quote the retired blind dude:

'he's been rotting in the can for twenty or thirty years'

he'd never seen his sons, and not until they were captured and he could see their tatoos / hear the prayer did he know they were his sons.

also - the story at the start, that must be aboot their mother, right?

no I think their mom's alive because somewhere on there it said that she had a few scences and was supposed to narrate the story, but they wound up deleting most of her scences and felt it wasn't necessary for her to be in the story.

so why did the priest stop the visiting speaker from objecting when the brothers interrupted a sermon to kiss the statue?

the only explanation i can come up with is that it's their story, their remembrance of their mother - kitty, was it?

that confused me too, I think it might of just been because they were leaving early?

I think someone should get the special edition and listen to the commentary.

oh and another reason is because in the trivial section that quote comes straight from another movie.

That wasn't a story about their mother. THat was a true story about a woman that was brutally murdered outside her apartment and no one called for help or went out to help her.

I am not sure why the priest let them go up there and kiss the statue though...

yeah that part would of made more scense if it was at the end of the movie, because they would have let them do it out of respect, and thinking that they were going out to kill more mafia. Because it catholic church thats a big no-no.

That's what I would have thought. I figured the Priest knew they had been sent from God or whatever, so he cut them some slack, but then the scene happens before it all started.

Who knows...can't wait for the sequel, this is the first I've heard of it in a while.
